WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 14, 2021) -- The King's College baseball team fell short in their attempt to sweep the season series from FDU-Florham on Sunday afternoon falling to the Devils by scores of 20-7 and 16-9.

The Monarchs (2-4) fought back from early deficits in both games but did not come up with enough offense to match the Devils on a windy day at Lipo Field. In the opener FDU-Florham (2-2) batted around in the first inning scoring eight runs. Brennan Schneider and Will McIntosh knocked in a pair to cut the lead to 8-2 after two before the visitors added on three more in the top of the third to take a 11-2 lead.

The lead increased to 20-2 on a four-run fifth and five-run sixth for the Devils. KC came right back in the bottom of the sixth and put two runs on the board. Cole Heitzman knocked in a run with a double down the left field line before Noah Adams scored on a wild pitch. The Monarchs were not done scoring as Chris Burke knocked in a run with a double to center in the seventh. Two batters later Chase Yochem doubled to center scoring Burke and Joshua Baiera to set the final score.

McIntosh led the Monarch offense with three hits one run scored and one RBI in the opener. Yochem had two hits in two at-bats off the bench knocking in a pair of runs and scoring once. Heitzman also recorded two hits with a run scored and a RBI.

In the nightcap, FDU-Florham once again got on the board first with a run in the second and then two runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead. The Monarchs used a big six-run fourth to take a 6-3 lead. After the Monarchs loaded the bases, Cole Keating scoring on a throwing error and then Paul Helman tied the game with a single to center. Burke walked in a run to give KC the lead before Keating knocked in a pair with a single through the left side.

The Devils responded in the top of the fifth with a five-run inning to retake the lead at 8-6. Burke doubled in a run in the sixth to cut the lead in half but a three-run homer by Tommy Moore in the top of the seventh gave the Devils an 11-7 advantage. KC fought back with two runs in the eight on a Keating single and a Brandon Mozeleski single down the line in left to score Keating.

The game entered the ninth inning with King's trailing 11-9. FDU-Florham scored five times in the ninth before the game was called due to darkness with the Monarchs still in the field.

Keating had a monster game for the Monarchs recording three hits, knocking in three runs, and scoring a pair. Pat Noone closed out his fantastic weekend with two hits and two runs scored while Mozeleski and Heitzman also recorded two hits. Burke and Helman had two RBI each.

King's will look to rebound next weekend when they face Delaware Valley. The Monarchs will travel down to Doylestown on Saturday before hosting the Aggies on Sunday. Both doubleheaders will begin at 12 PM.
