FDU-Florham Bests Men's Tennis 6-3 on Senior Day

WILKES-BARRE, PA (May 1, 2021) -- The King's College men's tennis team honored its five seniors Saturday against FDU-Florham in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action at Kirby Park, but the visiting Devils were able to outlast the Monarchs 6-3 in a preview of the MAC Freedom quarterfinals this upcoming week.

The Monarchs (4-5, 3-4 MAC Freedom) honored its seniors in Austin Mackey and Jason Homschek, along with PA major Nick Harth and engineering majors Sam Cadman and Nick Holland.  In doubles, King's took a 2-1 lead thanks to victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots.

At No. 1 doubles, Mackey and Logan Gregory were able to earn an 8-7 win in a tiebreak, while Homschek and Cadman bested JT Murray and CJ Milano of FDU 8-6 to take the lead into singles.

Unfortunately for the Monarchs, the Devils were able to win five of the six matches in singles' action to take the team victory. The lone win for King's came at No. 6 singles by Holland, who earned his second victory of the season and first at the No. 6 spot with a 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 win over Tyler Schacher.

There were a ton of close matches Saturday, as Harth responded from a 6-3 loss in the first set to push the second stanza to a tiebreak. In the breaker, Neal D'Adamo picked up the 7-4 triumph to take the point at No. 3 singles. Logan Gregory also battled at No. 2 singles before falling 6-4, 6-3, and Homschek fell in the first set at No. 4 singles 7-6 in a tiebreak before being bested 6-1 in the second.

The Monarchs and Devils will get reacquainted very quickly though, as these two teams will meet in the 2021 MAC Freedom Quarterfinals Monday afternoon in Madison, NJ at a time to be determined.
