Jordan Powers Field Hockey To Overtime Victory

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 21, 2021) – Bailey Jordan scored a career high two goals including the game-winner 1:38 into overtime to give the King's College field hockey team a thrilling 2-1 victory over visiting Keystone College in a defensive battle at McCarthy Stadium on Tuesday evening in Wilkes-Barre.

King's (3-3) had another strong defensive game holding Keystone (5-3) to just six total shots. Three of those shots came in the first quarter. Ellie Glatz made easy work of all three attempts kicking them away. The Monarchs had back-to-back penalty corners in the 11th and 12th minutes but were unable to get a shot off either attempt.

The battle continued into the second quarter and Jordan was able to give the Monarchs the lead with 1:06 left in the half when she shrugged off a Giant defender on the edge of the circle, took one dribble towards the center of the field and then unleashed a shot from about 10 yards out that skipped right past the left pad of the Keystone keeper and into the back of the cage.

The Giants came out of the halftime break strong and were able to tie the game in the 35th minute when Shannon Green redirected a shot from Miranda Mascia into the back of the cage. King's nearly took the lead right back a couple minutes later off a Jordan penalty corner but Hannah Osbahr was able to knock away a shot by Lexi Prowker.

Prowker came up huge for the Monarchs early in the fourth quarter with a huge defensive save on a shot from Julia Blahut off a Keystone penalty corner. The teams battled back and forth the rest of the quarter but neither team was able to get off a shot.

King's opened up the overtime session as the aggressor and earned a penalty corner 90 seconds into the period. Jordan inserted the ball from the left side out to Abby Wolfe at the top of the circle. Wolfe passed the ball back to Jordan on the left wing. Jordan's first attempt at the ball was stopped by a Keystone defender, but she powered through, and her second attempt went just inside the left post of the cage to give the Monarchs the win.

Jordan finished the game with two goals on six shots to give her three goals on the year. Prowker had two shots for the Monarchs while Vivian Williams had one. Glatz had another outstanding performance in goal with four saves. The Monarchs held a 9-6 shot advantage in the game and had 11 penalty corners to just four for the Giants.

KC will be back in action this Saturday when they open conference play hosting Stevens Institute of Technology at McCarthy Stadium at 12:00 pm.
