Field Hockey Drops 3-1 Decision To Stevens In Conference Opener

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 25, 2021) – The King's College field hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon in the conference opener at McCarthy Stadium in Wilkes-Barre.

The Monarchs (3-4, 0-1 MAC Freedom) got on the board first as Sara Whitesell knocked in a feed from Danielle Runo for her second goal of the season in the 12th minute. The Ducks (4-2, 1-0 MAC Freedom) responded a minute later when Alyssa Appleby scored her first goal of the year off an assist by Kila Eadie.

The Ducks took the lead in the 26th minute off a penalty corner attempt. Aryana Muscara inserted the ball to Natalie Logan setup Danielle Hessels for her first goal of the year. Stevens then scored an insurance goal in the 52nd minute when Brynn Froehlich shot the ball inside the left post from the left wing for her first goal of the year.

The Monarchs did a great job all afternoon limiting the number of shots Stevens was able to put on goal. The Ducks finished the game with a 17-2 shot advantage including 11-2 in shots on goal. Stevens had a large 18-4 advantage in penalty corners. The Monarch defense stayed strong all game against a very good SIT team that spent a large portion of the game on offense.

Ellie Glatz had another strong performance in goal for the Monarchs making eight saves while facing 11 shots.

The Monarchs will look to rebound on Tuesday when they host Moravian College at 7 pm in McCarthy Stadium.
