Women's Soccer Drop Road Match at Albright

READING, PA (September 25, 2021) --- The King's College women's soccer team fell short on the road at Albright College on Saturday evening in Reading, Pennsylvania.

The Monarchs (1-3-1) came out of the gates strong and recorded the games opening shot which came off the foot of Angelina Falcone in the 3rd minute of play, but sailed high and right. The Lions of Albright College saw their first offensive action of the contest in the 14th minute when Autumn Bieber struck a shot at net and forced a save out of King's goalkeeper Tara Bender.

The first half saw a constant battle for possession as both sides continued to steal control of the ball in the defensive end. Albright finally broke the stalemate with just under two minutes to play in the first half when Kate Griffin received a pass from Bieber and placed her shot past Bender and into the back of the net. This gave the Lions a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

KC posed an early threat at goal to start the second half as Angelina Vargas took an effort on goal but missed wide right. Albright responded with an attack of their own which led to a one on one breakaway shot from Bieber which was headed into the bottom right corner of the goal, but Bender made an incredible diving stop to keep the ball out of the net.

Bieber was able find the back of the net later on for the Lions in the 80th minute when she chipped a shot over Bender who had come off her line to make an initial stop. Albright would hold to win the match with a final score of 2-0.

Vargas, Falcone, Alyssa Macher, and Kristina Keithley each recorded a shot for the Monarchs. Bender contributed four saves in goal for King's, while McKenna Levan made one save for the Lions.

The Monarchs will look to bounce back on Wednesday afternoon when they host Ursinus College. Kickoff is set for 4 pm at McCarthy Stadium.
