King’s Women’s Ice Hockey Battle Tough In Series Finale Against Stevenson

PITTSTON, PA (January 22, 2022) – The King's College women's ice hockey team put together a strong performance on Saturday afternoon at Revolution Ice Centre in Pittston as they fell to visiting Stevenson University 5-0.

The Monarchs played a very skilled Mustang offense very tight and frustrated them for much of the game. King's played the visitors tough all three periods not giving them any easy looks at the net. Hannah Bowers was fantastic in goal making a season-high 47 saves. Trinity Barcless led the way for Stevenson with three goals.

Barcless scored two of her three goals in the first period at 8:20 and 14:09. Both goals occurred off shots saved by Bowers. In the second period Barcless scored her ninth goal of the year at 15:47 to give the Mustangs a 3-0 lead. Despite playing with a lead, the Monarch defense was so frustrating to the Mustangs, Stevenson was forced to call a timeout at 12:07 of the third period. A minute later, Cassie Campbell scored her sixth goal of the year to give the visitors a 4-0 lead. Ashlyn Bray wrapped up the scoring with an empty net goal with 15 seconds left.

The Monarch defense blocked 21 shots in total, their second-most of the season. Ani Quindipan topped the squad with five while Erin King and Meghan Mietlicki blocked four each. Savannah Willard blocked two shots and six different Monarchs recorded one block apiece. Offensively, King's put 11 shots on goal led by Emma Dos Santos with three. King, Ali Noeding, Jordan Dittmar, and Alexa Kovaly had two shots each. Josee Aitken and Dittmar won 10 faceoffs each. Bowers stopped 16 shots in the first, 20 in the second, and then 11 shots in the third period.

King's will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon with a 3:30 pm puck drop against cross-town rival Wilkes University at the Toyota Sportsplex at Coal Street Park.
