WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 25, 2022) –
Ani Quindipan scored her second goal of the season to lead the King's College women's ice hockey team in a hard-fought battle on Tuesday afternoon to Wilkes University in a 4-1 victory by the Colonels.
King's battled for the full 60 minutes with Wilkes scoring all four of their goal in the first 22 minutes of action. The teams combined for four goals in the first period with the Colonels striking first as Julie Patterson scored her fourth goal of the year at 9:37. The lead was short-lived as King's won the ensuring faceoff and 30 seconds later Quindipan fired a shot from the blue line that ripped into the back of the net.
Josée Aitken tallied her fourth assist of the year while
Rae Hughes recorded her first career point with the primary assist.
The Colonels retook the lead less than a minute later as Rachel Morey tallied her third goal of the year 30 seconds into the first power play opportunity of the game for the Colonels. Elizabeth Spoon increased the lead to 3-1 with her first goal of the year at 13:14 of the first and then Spoon scored again 1:01 into the second period with the second power play goal of the day for the Colonels.
The Monarchs unleashed an aggressive offensive attack all game putting a season-high 43 shots on goal and outshot their opponent for the first time this year holding the hosts to just 28 shots, which is the lowest amount of shots King's has allowed all season. The Colonels also blocked an additional 20 shots by the Monarchs while KC finished with 13 blocks. King's fired shot after shot at Addy Olson in goal for the Colonels but were unable to light the lamp. The Monarchs were especially dangerous on their five power play opportunities putting 14 total shots on net in 10 minutes.
Ali Noeding led the squad with six shots taken while
Jordan Dittmar and
Emma Dos Santos took five shots each.
Kait Wolf took four shots while Aitken,
Erin King,
Savannah Willard, and
Ryan Bisgard took three shots each. Dos Santos topped the team with three blocked shots while Wolf, Quindipan, and
Dianna Duncan blocked two apiece.
Hannah Bowers made 24 saves in goal stopping 10 shots in the first, seven in the second, and then all seven shots she saw in the third.
After playing six games in just 10 days the Monarchs will have a few days to rest before taking on Anna Maria College on Friday and Saturday at the Revolution Ice Centre. Game times are set for 7 pm on Friday evening and 2 pm on Saturday afternoon.
