Stevens Downs Women's Soccer 5-1 in MAC Freedom Opener

HOBOKEN, NJ (October 1, 2022) --- The King's College women's soccer team dropped their MAC Freedom Conference opener on the road Saturday afternoon, falling to Stevens Institute of Technology 5-1. With the loss, the Monarchs fall to 6-2-2 on the season, while Stevens improves to 2-5-3.

It was a frenetic start, as both squads fired off two shots in the opening 15 minutes. The first two shots of the game came from Stevens (2-5-3), while King's (6-2-2) responded with two shots in the span of 12 seconds. However, the Ducks got on the board first, as Stevens was rewarded with a penalty kick, that beat graduate goalkeeper Tara Bender, just inside the post. The Ducks doubled their advantage in the 35th minute, and that is how the score stood as the teams headed to the break with Stevens on top 2-0.

Stevens came out of the break, and quickly doubled their lead from two to four, as the Ducks scored twice in the span of one minute. Following the fourth Stevens goal, King's offense was looking for a way to get into the game, as the Monarchs tallied the next three shots of the match. The Ducks added a fifth goal in the 72nd minute, but sophomore Mikaela Majcher got King's on the board in the 85th minute, taking a pass from senior Angelina Falcone, and finding the net, to make the score 5-1.

Stevens held the edge on shots in the match, outshooting King's 21-9 overall, while also holding a slim 3-2 advantage on corner kicks.

King's were led on offense by Majcher, who recorded her first career goal, tallied two points on the goal, while Falcone picked up one point with her assist. Sophomore Liz Porto recorded two shots, including one on target, while junior Madelyn Reuter and sophomores Hailey Shillabeer and Raina Adelman all tallied one shot. Bender got the start in goal, making four saves on nine shots.

The Ducks were led by Rachel Rouse, who recorded three points, on one goal and one assist, while Tia Saade, Jana Mucci, Amelia Rehrig, and Sarah Wnorowski all tallied two points, each scoring one goal.

The Monarchs return home for their MAC Freedom home opener, as the squad hosts Delaware Valley University on Tuesday afternoon with kickoff scheduled for 4 pm at McCarthy Stadium.
