Women's Soccer Battles Hard Against Arcadia but Falls 1-0

GLENSIDE, PA (October 15, 2022) --- The King's College women's soccer team battled hard against Arcadia University, ultimately falling in the MAC Freedom contest, 1-0 on Saturday in Glenside, PA. With the loss King's falls to 7-3-3 overall and 1-2-1 in MAC play, while Arcadia improves to 6-7-2 and 2-2 in the conference.

Arcadia (6-7-2, 2-2) came out fast, tallying the first twelve shots of the contest, all coming within the opening 30 minutes of play. During that stretch the Knights tallied one corner kick, while King's (7-3-3, 1-2-1) also attempted one. However, it was Arcadia who struck first in the 30th minute, as Riley Ratcliffe found the back of the net, to open the scoring, putting the Knights up 1-0 at 29:51. King's began to settle in after the Knights' opener, as first-year Maryanna Garcia tallied the first effort for the Monarchs in the 43rd minute. Neither squad scored again, as the game was 1-0 at the half.

The second half began much like the first, as the Knights opened the half with the first four shots of the frame, before senior Angelina Falcone effort in the 65th minute went just wide. Following Falcone's chance, Arcadia once again went on a run, collecting the next four shots, with the last effort coming at 84:01. With six minutes left King's upped the pressure looking for the equalizer, but two shots in the final minute went by the wayside.

The Knights held the advantage on shots 20-4, including 6-1 on efforts at goal, while also leading in the corner kick department 5-3.

King's was led on offense as four different Monarchs tallied one shot. Sophomore Raina Adelman, Falcone, and Garcia collected shots, while sophomore Cady McKean notched the lone effort at goal. Graduate student Tara Bender made the start in goal, making five saves on six shots, picking up the loss.

Ratcliffe led the Knights attack, picking up two points on one goal, adding three shots, including two on target. Amanda Thaler tallied five shots, with one on target, while Caroline Weirich added three shots, with one on target. Abigail Fuchs made the start in net, turning aside the only shot she faced, collecting the win.

King's will return home to host Lycoming College in a Tuesday afternoon MAC Freedom Contest, with kickoff set for 4 p.m.
