Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late Effort Comes Up Short as Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 to Lycoming

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 18, 2022) --- The King's College women's soccer dropped another hard-fought contest, this time falling to the Lycoming College Warriors 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Monarchs fall to 7-4-3 and 1-3-1 in MAC play, while the Warriors improve to 10-4-2 and 4-2 in conference play.

Lycoming (10-4-2,4-2) came out of the gates quickly, tallying the first seven shots of the game. The first shot came from Evelyn Cronise in the second minute, forcing an early save from graduate student Tara Bender. King's (7-4-3,1-3-1) got their first shot in the 23rd minute as junior Leah Sankey's effort went high. Following the Monarchs' first shot, the Warriors found the ice breaker, as Abigail Umhoefer made it 1-0 at 31:35. Lycoming stayed on the front foot for the remainder of the half, recording the final four shots.

Coming out of the break, the King's attack began to pressure the Lycoming backline. The Monarchs tallied the first four shots of the second frame but could not find an equalizer. The teams traded shots between the 60th and 66th minutes, before King's recorded two of the next three shots, but were once again unable to find the net. Under pressure Lycoming ran out a few counter attacks, notching three shots, before a last-ditch effort from sophomore Liz Porto went just high with 20 seconds left, as Lycoming came away with the 1-0 win.

Lycoming held the edge on shots, 18-10 including an 11-3 mark on shots on target. King's, meanwhile, had the advantage on corner kicks, 3-2.

The Monarchs' attack was led by Porto who recorded three shots, including one on target. Sankey and first-year Megan Thompson both added two shots, while senior Angelina Falcone, junior Lauren Chapple, and sophomore Mikaela Majcher each tallied one shot. Bender made the start in net, making ten saves on 11 shots, recording the loss.

The Warriors were led by Umhoefer's two points, scoring one goal on three shots. Bella Green added four shots, while Aubrey Williamson added three shots on target. Claudia Green, Madison Maihle, and Bridget Maaloum contributed two shots each. Abbey Gerasimoff got the start in goal making three saves, picking up the shutout victory.

The Monarchs return to action on Friday for senior nights, as King's hosts FDU-Florham at McCarthy Stadium, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
