Women's Volleyball Loses Home Conference Finale to Arcadia

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 25, 2022)-- The King's College Monarchs women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to the Arcadia University Knights on Tuesday night at McGrane Gymnasium. This was the team's final Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom home game of the season. With this loss, the Monarchs drop to 17-9 on the season, 0-7 in MAC Freedom play. The Knights meanwhile improve to 17-7 on the season, 6-1 in MAC Freedom play.

The Monarchs were tied 6-6 in the opening set thanks to two kills by Emma Monson. Kayla Sondberg and Kathy Shepherd each had one as well. An 8-3 stretch put the Knights ahead 17-11. The Monarchs crawled back into things with five straight points to trail by one. The Knights however, closed things out. They took the opening set by a final of 25-18. 

Early in the second set, Monson recorded two more kills. Arcadia took a commanding 21-8 lead. The Monarchs did not make things easy in the end. The team went on a 5-2 run late courtesy of another kill by Monson and one by Bella Salvia. In the end, the Knights emerged victorious 25-13.

The Monarchs came out strong early on in the third set which saw five different ties. The team recorded early kills from Monson, Sondberg and Shepherd. Things were tied at the 10-point mark. Arcadia scored eight straight which helped propel them to a 25-15 win and the sweep. 

As a team, the Monarchs registered 21 kills on 20 assists and 37 digs. Monson led the attack with a season-high six kills. Shepherd also had six and Carly Shire had a career-best three kills. Additionally, Shire led the way with 12 assits followed by four from Keely Hoban and two by Morgan Williams. Williams led the defense with 16 digs. Adriana Conforti followed with six and Morgan Bryant five. 

For the Knights, junior Estefania Martinez-Sola finished the night with 12 kills. Junior Danielle Doyle followed with 11. Doyle also had six blocks on the night. First year Kelsi Warner had a team-high three service aces and 23 assists. Reigning MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week Grace Kraft led the team with 11 digs. 

The Monarchs will be in action again on Thursday October 27 at 7:00 p.m. They will travel to Madison, NJ to take on FDU-Florham in their final MAC Freedom matchup of the year.
