BROCKPORT, NY (October 28, 2022) --- Sophomore
Jack Cooper set the King's record for career goals, but the Monarchs men's ice hockey team dropped the season opener against SUNY Brockport on Friday night, 6-1, as the Golden Eagles tallied two goals in each period.
Brockport (1-0) came out quickly firing off the first four shots of the game, before King's (0-1) recorded their first two shots as sophomore

Zach Satalino's shots were turned aside by Nolan Egbert. The Golden Eagles struck first however, at 6:28 as Anthony Hora's shot got past sophomore goaltender
Matt Bidini. Brockport doubled their lead at 14:05 on a goal from Josh Grund and took that 2-0 lead into the first intermission.Â
King's came out rejuvenated in the second period. After Brockport tallied three of the first five shots of the frame, King's notched 11 of the next 12 shots, however during that stretch the Golden Eagles added a third goal at 4:57 to make it 3-0. Five minutes later, Cooper got the Monarchs on the board, as the sophomore collected the rebound off sophomore
Erik Borschevsky's point shot, beating Egbert to the near post and setting the school record for goals in a career with his 14
th career tally, at 9:14. Brockport responded a minute and a half later to extend the lead back to three on Matt Anastasio's goal at 10:42. Early in the third period Hora scored his second goal of the game at 3:07 on the power play, before Andrew Harley added a sixth goal at 3:50 giving the Golden Eagles the 6-1 win.Â

Bidini got the start in goal making 14 saves on 18 shots before giving way to senior
Ismael Ralsten. Ralsten made 25 saves on 27 shots in relief. Cooper led the Monarchs with eight shots on goal, while two others, sophomores
Alexander Ray and
Casey Gerstein both added four. King's won 33 of 68 total face-offs as sophomore
Tyler Blanchard went 9-20 in the circle, while Ray went 8-16, and first-year Carson Holliday went 7-8. On special teams the Monarchs went 0-2 on the power play and 2-3 shorthanded.Â

The Golden Eagles had four players tally four or more shots on goal led by Harley who recorded eight and Grund who added six. Brockport won 35 of 68 total face-offs in the contest, while Egbert picked up the win in net, turning aside 40 of 41 Monarch shots. The Golden Eagles went 1-3 on the power play, while holding King's scoreless on two Monarch power plays.
King's will return to Wilke-Barre to take on cross-town rival Wilkes University on Sunday afternoon at the Toyota SportsPlex for a 3:30 p.m. puck drop.
