Wrestling Continues to Taste Success in Their First Round Robin Tournament

LA PLUME, PA (November 19, 2022) -- The King's College Monarchs wrestling team tasted more success on Saturday at the Keystone Pool Tournament. 10 different Monarchs went undefeated on the day. They faced off against Keystone College, Jamestown Community College, and Rowan College of Gloucester County.

The 125 weight class featured first year Patrick Horvath and sophomore Kyle Miller for the Monarchs. Horvath had a big day, winning all three of his matches. He took the first one by a commanding 13-2 over De'Aonte Hutchinson of JCC. In the second round match, Horvath again came out on top via decision, this time 6-2 over Shamar Baines of Rowan. Hovath's final match was another commanding win over Jacob McDonald from Rowan, by the score of 13-1. Miller lost all three of his matches via pin.  

The 133 weight class featured sophomore Nick Germano and first year Cole Anderson for King's. Germano won both of his matches. The first, he took over Brendon Ramsey of JCC 7-4. The next one he won over Rowan's Mike Amoriello 11-3. Anderson also went undefeated on the day. He earned a 19-2 tech fall over Amoriello, and an 8-4 decision over Ramsey.

Sophomore Cameron Leslie wrestled at 149 for and went 1-1. After falling by a close 8-6 to James Rankin of JCC, he came out on top over Alberto Rubi of Rowan 3-2.

Senior Colby Spencer and sophomore Bret Murphy were the 157 participants for King's. Each went undefeated on the day. After pinning Keystone's Noah Atkins at 2:55 in his first match, Spencer won a close bout 7-6 over CJ Riccobono of Keystone. Spencer would cap off his day with another pin over Mariano Monacelli of Keystone in 1:23. Murphy won over Riccobono by 9-2 decision before he pinned Monacelli in 1:40. In his final match of the day Murphy earned a quick 32 second pin of Atkins.

The 165 weight class had first year Alex Ballantyne and sophomore Jackson Marcantonio. Ballantyne was pinned by Codi Bomboy and Dalten Klinges of Keystone in his two matches. Marcantonio defeated Klinges 11-4 in his first match before being pinned by Bomboy in his second match. 

The 174 weight class once again featured three Monarchs. Graduate student Kade Kravits had another big day, going a perfect 3-0. After winning his first match by decision over Mohammed Mustafa Salimi 9-6, Kravits pinned his other two opponents. He pinned Matthew Mushinski of Rowan in a quick 53 seconds and Tyler Rozanski of  Keystone in 2:10. Senior Joe Davis and sophomore Alex Martinez-Fisher lost their three matches by pin.

Three Monarchs also competed at 184 with just one other wrestler, Alex Christy of JCC. Senior Bill Grace, first year Connor Wrobleski and sophomore Richard Fronheiser all came out winners. Wrobleski and Fronheiser both won via pin in times of 1:19 and 3:42. Grace emerged victorious by 8-2 decision.

Senior Dave White had arguably the biggest day for King's. He won all three of his matches via pin at 285. He pinned Keystone's Brendan Hamilton in 2:25, Keystone's Daniel Steskal in 1:50, and Rowan's Bobby Meister in 1:40.

The Monarchs next action will be on December 2nd and 3rd as they will travel to Grantham, PA for the two day Messiah Petrofes Invitational.
