Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Comeback Efforts Come Up Short for Men's Ice Hockey on Friday Night

COLMAR, PA (December 2, 2022) -- Trailing 4-1 early in the second period, the King's College men's ice hockey team closed within one, but their comeback efforts came up just short as the Monarchs fell, 4-3, at Arcadia University's Hatfield Ice Arena on Friday night. The Monarchs drop to 2-6-0 overall, 2-4-0 in UCHC play, and 1-1-0 in Middle Atlantic Conference bouts, while the Knights improve to 3-5-1, 3-3-1 in the UCHC, and 2-0-1 in the MAC.

King's (2-6-0, 2-4-0 UCHC, 1-1-0 MAC) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at the 6:32 mark of the first period as Kent Lee finished off a play from assists by Seth Wyatt-Manning and Tyler Blanchard. The Monarchs out shot Arcadia (3-5-1, 3-3-1 UCHC, 2-0-1 MAC) 14-11 in the stanza, but the Knights capitalized on their opportunities to net three first-period goals and take the 3-1 lead into the first break.

The hosts tacked on their final tally of the night 7:47 into the second period, but just under nine minutes later Patrick Nowak and Casey Gerstein fed Zach Satalino to close within 4-2 heading into the final intermission.

Tyler Blanchard found the back of the net early in the third at the 4:54 mark thanks to assists from Gerstein and Lee to bring King's within one score. Despite firing off 10 shots to just six from the Knights, King's could not find the equalizer down the stretch as they fell, 4-3, to Arcadia on the road on Friday night.

Blanchard, Lee, and Gerstein all tallied two points in the loss, while Nowak, Satalino, and Wyatt-Manning each picked up a point a piece. Jack Cooper led the Monarchs with six shots, including three in the second, with a team-high three blocks, while Alexander Ray posted a team-best 10 face off wins. Ismael Ralsten took the loss as the starter, making 14 saves in 27:47 of action, while Tyler Sayger was solid over the final 30:49 as he held the Knights scoreless and totaled 17 saves.

James Spaargaren led the Knights with two points on two goals, while Dylan Florit totaled two points on two assists with a team-high of 13 face off wins. Aaron Hamel and Michael Hertzberg posted team-highs of five shots, while Fletcher Bolda earned the win in goal making 36 saves.

As a team, the Monarchs held the edge in the shot column, totaling 39 to the Knights' 35. King's was also strong defending against the power play as they held Arcadia scoreless on all four of their power plays.

The Monarchs will have a quick turnaround as they return home to the Revolution Ice Centre tomorrow afternoon. Puck drop with Arcadia is set for 3:30 p.m. in Pittston, Pa.
