Kravits Finishes Second, Wrestling Takes Sixth Place at Messiah Petrofes Invitational

GRANTHAM, PA (December 3, 2022) -- The King's College Monarchs wrestling team performed big in the final day of the Messiah Petrofes Invitational on Saturday. Kade Kravits had a second place finish at 174 while Connor Wrobleski won the 184 consolation bracket to finish in third place. As a result, the team improved one spot up to sixth place out of 15 teams, with 86.5 points.

At 125, Patrick Horvath competed in the fifth round of the consolation bracket. He lost to Brian McCaw of Muhlenberg College via 7-2 decision. He would however bounce back to defeat Caiden Heller of host school Messiah University by a 4-0 decision. This earned him a seventh place finish.


Teammates Nick Germano and Cole Anderson faced off in round five of the 133 consolation bracket. Anderson came out on top by 7-4 decision. Germano would finish in seventh on the day, after he took his next match over Ricky Caamano of Muhlenberg by a 5-3 decision. Anderson meanwhile would follow his win over Germano with a loss by pin to Wilson Gomes of Bridgewater State. Anderson emerged victorious in his final match of the day. He came away with a major 12-1 decision win over Alvernia University's James King to finish in fifth.

At 149, Shane Kibler lost a close one by the score of 4-2 to Brandon Flores-Salazar of Alvernia. He would finish seventh in the tournament, thanks to a 3-0 decision win over Cameron Deville of Messiah in his final match.

Kravits faced off against some strong competition in Shenandoah University's Dylan Weaver in the 174 semis. Kravits came out on top 4-1 to punch his ticket to the finals, where he would face Anson Dewar of Muhlenberg. Kravits lasted till the end, but Dewar came out on top by 8-1 decision to win the tournament while Kravits finished in a remarkable second place.

All three 184 participants for the King's finished in the top seven. Two Monarchs went head-to-head again in the 184 bracket. Wrobleski and Bill Grace met in round five of the consolations. Wrobleski pinned Grace in 1:31 to advance to the consolation semi-finals. He won a hard-fought bout by 2-1 decision over Ryder Slayton of Messiah. Wrobleski faced off against Ryan Fairchild of Muhlenberg for the consolation finals. A 9-5 decision win earned Wrobleski a consolation bracket win and huge third place finish. 

Following the loss to Wrobleski, Grace won his final match of the tournament by 6-2 decision over Nick Kostyak of Penn State Mount Aldo to finish in seventh place. Richard Fronheister also defeated Kostyak. He did so by 3-1 decision in round five of the consolations. Fronheiser would lose his next two matches however. Ryan Fairchild of Muhlenberg pinned him and he fell 5-0 to Ryder Slayton of Messiah. Nonetheless, Fronheiser finished the weekend in a solid fifth place.

King's next action on the mat will be on Monday December 19, at 11:00 am. They will head back home to McGrane Gymnasium and host their first and only home quad-match of the season where they will face New Jersey City University, Penn College of Technology and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
