DiSchiavi Breaks Program Career Points Record in Loss at Stevenson

REISTERSTOWN, MD (February 18, 2022) -- With his assist on the Monarchs goal in a 5-1 loss at Stevenson University, senior Michael DiSchiavi became the program's all-time leader in points for a career with 31. DiShicavi passes Luciano Bucci who set the career points record of 30 throughout his time in the red and gold from 2017-2019. The Monarchs await the outcomes of the remaining weekend contests to determine their UCHC playoff hopes with one game remaining in their regular-season schedule.

King's (5-18-0, 4-13-0 UCHC, 1-7-0 MAC) gave up just one goal in the opening period as Stevenson's (18-5-1, 14-3-0 UCHC, 7-0-0 MAC) Aidan Graham found the net off assists by Chad Watt and Graeme McCrory. First year Matt Bidini was strong in the goal in the opening period making nine saves to keep the Monarchs within a goal.

The Mustangs powered through the second period, recording three goals thanks to Brendan Rylottt's goal at the 3:51 mark, Alex Rivet's powerplay goal at 17:38, and Ryan Patrick's tally shortly after at 18:52 in the second.

The Monarchs got on the board to try and chip away at the Stevenson lead 8:47 into the final period, in regulation,  trailing 4-1, as DiSchiavi broke the career record as the first assist on first year Aaron Frenkel's goal, his seventh of the season, as first year Casey Gerstein was also credited for an assist on the play. Stevenson responded four minutes later with the final dagger off an Evan Beers goal to post the final 5-1 tally on the road on Friday afternoon.

First year Jack Cooper led King's with five shots, while DiSchiavi and junior Ian Zaleski each added four shots. First year Tyler Blanchard led the Monarchs in face offs with nine wins. Defensively, senior Jack O'Neil and first year Erik Borschevsky totaled two blocks a piece. Between the pipes, Bidini recorded 15 saves, while senior Brandon Daigle came on in relief to total nine saves in 21:08 of action.

Ryan Kenny of Stevenson totaled a 30-save effort in the complete 60-minute game. The Mustangs had a balanced scoring attack as five different skaters recorded goals in the win, and Mac Lowry led with 15 face off wins.

As a team, the Monarchs recorded 32 shots, earned 30 face off wins, and blocked six shots.

The Monarchs will wrap up their 2021-22 regular-season schedule at home as they honor their seven seniors at 4:00 p.m. in an important matchup with Chatham University at the Revolution Ice Centre.
