Women's Ice Hockey Honors Seniors and Celebrates Pink Day Against Alvernia

PITTSTON, PA (February 18, 2022) -- In their regular season home finale, the King's College women's ice hockey honored its six seniors while celebrating its Pink Day on Friday as they fell, 5-0, to the visiting Alvernia University. The Monarchs fall to 2-21-0 overall, 2-17-0 in UCHC play, and 1-8-0 against MAC opponents, while the Golden Wolves improve to 10-12-1 for the season, 8-9-1 in the UCHC, 6-3-0 in the MAC.

Prior to the contest, the Monarchs honored their six graduating members, Josée Aitken, Hannah Bowers, Erin King, Alexa Kovaly, Meghan Mietlicki, and Alli Noeding. King's also celebrated its "Pink the Rink" day in continued support to raise awareness and donations for breast cancer research and treatment, especially as it effects those within the King's women's ice hockey program.

Alvernia (10-12-1, 8-9-1, 6-3-0) got on the board first 5:13 into the first period as Sydney Bradley found the net off assists from Abby Reisinger and Mackenzie Jackson. The Golden Wolves then tacked on another goal 8:22 into the game as Reisinger recorded an unassisted short-handed goal.

Reisigner scored her second goal of the day at the 6:27 mark of the second off feeds from Bradley and Jackson. Alvernia tacked on two more in the third thanks to an Alex Robertson goal off Amber Steinhilpert and Jasmine Hughes before Reisinger tallied her third goal in a shorthanded attempt with 2:17 to play in regulation to post the 5-0 final.

Sophomore Emma Dos Santos led the Monarchs offensive efforts with five shots, adding two face off wins and two blocks. Fellow-sophomore Dianna Duncan and first year Jordan Dittmar added four shots each, while graduate student Josée Aitken led the Monarchs with 14 face off wins. Defensively first years Ani Quindipan and Kait Wolf tallied two blocked shots each. Senior Hannah Bowers took the loss in the complete 60-minute game, recording 37 saves, including 19 in the third period.

Reisinger led the Golden Wolves with three goals and an assist off seven shots while adding two face off wins. Lauren Czymek recorded a team-high four blocks in the win, while Julia Beaven totaled 30 saves in goal for the win.

As a team, the Monarchs recorded 30 shots and 11 blocks in their final game in the Revolution Ice Centre for the 2021-22 season. 

King's will finish its 2021-22 regular season schedule on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. as they make the return trip down to Reading, Pa. to take on the Golden Wolves at the Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex.
