HERSHEY, PA (February 4, 2022) -- The King's College men's ice hockey team fought hard for all 60 minutes but unfortunately were unable to find the back of the net in a tough 4-0 loss to host Lebanon Valley College on Friday evening at Hersheypark Arena in Hershey.
The Monarchs played the Flying Dutchmen strong all game and outshot the hosts 29-28 but were unable to get the puck pass LVC goalie Ty Franchi who made multiple huge stops in the third period. King's started out with a strong first period controlling the puck for the majority of the period. Lebanon Valley scored twice in the second period to take the lead. The first goal came from the center of the ice on a one-timer from Blake Tosto at 11:36. A few minutes later Darion Benchich doubled the LVC lead with his fourth goal of the season at 14:32.
Alex Borowiec started the third period with a power play goal to give the Dutchmen a 3-0 advantage. The Monarch offense fought hard to cut into the lead and make another third period comeback. However, three consecutive shots by
Erik Borschevsky,
Mauro D'Alessandro, and
Josh Edwards were all saved by Franchi around the six-minute mark. King's had more great attempts at the goal in the final five minutes but shots by
Jack Cooper,
Kent Lee, and
Tyler Blanchard were all knocked away. The Dutchmen added a late empty net goal to set the final score.
Cooper led the team with five shots while Blanchard and Borschevsky tallied four each.
Ismael Ralsten made 24 saves in goal.
King's will look to rebound from the tough loss tomorrow afternoon when they travel down to Colmar, PA to take on Arcadia University at 3:30 pm. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:30 pm at the Hatfield Ice Arena.
