SCRANTON, PA (March 23, 2022) – The Monarchs opened the game with 2 quick goals, but they could not keep up the pace as they eventually fell to the Pacers of Marywood, 12-4. The Pacers were led by John Scibello who tallied 6 points on 5 goals and 1 assist.
First year
Ben Spencer got things started for the Monarchs, scoring less than 2 minutes into the contest. Spencer took a feed from graduate student
Gabe Vansuch and took a fantastic shot on the run down the right alley to put the Monarchs up 1. Less than a minute later, sophomore
Ryan Barnes found the back of the net, bumping up the scored to 2-0 in favor of the Monarchs.
Things took a turn at this point as the Pacers went on a 6 goal run to close out the opening quarter of play. The Pacers had 3 different goal scorers in the first quarter, with John Scibello finding the back of the net 3 times for the early hat trick. Ben Mustakos tallied another 2 and Dalton Metzger was responsible for the other. The Monarchs closed out the first quarter down 6-2.
Dalton Metzger would find the back of the net again for the Pacers. Metzger scored just 59 seconds into the second quarter, a goal that would turn out to be the lone goal for both squads in the second quarter. The Monarchs found themselves down 5 at the half with the score being 7-2 in favor of the Pacers.
A moment of light came less than 2 minutes into the second half. Senior
Brendan Gambino got on the board, putting 1 past the goalie to knock the lead for the Pacers down to 4. Just a little under 6 minutes later, the scoring drought for both teams was ended by Zach Saneman of the Pacers. Aiden Kilkenny added another for Marywood at the 3:03 mark of the third quarter. Just 31 seconds later, Gambino would tally his second of the game to make the score 9-4 in favor of the Pacers.
The Monarchs would go on to go scoreless in the fourth quarter. John Scibello would round out his 5 goal game with 2 in the fourth quarter. Dillon Kane would also add his name to the score sheet to push the final score to 12-4 in favor of the Pacers.
Brendan Gambino ended the game as the points leader for the Monarchs with 2 points on 2 goals while totaling 8 shots and picking up 1 ground ball.
Ryan Barnes and
Ben Spencer each added a goal with Spencer taking 9 total shots while picking up a team leading 4 groundballs.
Gabe Vansuch added 1 point to the team total on 1 assist. Senior
John Shaffer caused 2 turnovers and snagged 3 groundballs. Junior
Jackson Campbell played the full game in net for the Monarchs and made 12 saves.
John Scibello led the Pacers with 6 points on 5 goals and 1 assist. Ben Mustakos totaled 3 points on 2 goals and 1 assist. Connor Reed made 15 saves in a complete game in net for the Pacers.
The Monarchs return to action this Friday as they hit the road to Annville, PA for a matchup with Lebanon Valley. Action is slated to kickoff at 7:00 PM.
