Dutchmen Offense Too Much for Monarchs to Handle in Loss

ANNVILLE, PA (March 25, 2022) – The high flowing offense of the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley was too much for the Monarchs to handle as they eventually fell 19-9.
 
The Dutchmen found their groove in the first quarter and stuck with it. Lebanon Valley scored the first 10 goals of the game, holding the Monarchs scoreless for the first quarter. Alex Kiniviemi started the game with a bang, opening up scoring for the Dutchmen. Kiniviemi went on to score 2 more before the end of the quarter to round out his hat trick. Jake Bollinger and Trey Ralston ended the first period of play with 2 goals apiece. Carson Frey and Liam Hogan each added 1 to bring the first quarter total to 9 and the score line to 9-0 in favor of Lebanon Valley. 
 
Jake Bollinger would nab his hat trick a little under 2 minutes into the second to extend the Dutchmen lead to 10. Senior Alec Martin finally got the Monarchs on the board, finding the back of the net at the 11:53 mark of the second quarter. A 4 goal run by the Dutchmen extending their lead to 14-1 at the 2:52 mark of the second quarter. Alec Martin got the last laugh of the half, netting his second of the game with 1:29 left in the half.
 
The third quarter started very similar to the start of the game, as the Dutchmen found the back of the net twice before the midpoint of the quarter. Colin Hughes earned his second of the night and Ben Weathersby scored his first and only on the night. Senior Brendan Gambino stopped the Dutchmen run, putting 1 past the goalie at the 6:16 mark of the third quarter. Trey Ralston and Carson Frey closed out the scoring in the third quarter, extending the lead to 18-3 at the end of the third quarter.
 
The Monarchs found their legs in the fourth, but unfortunately the deficit was too large to overcome. First year Ben Spencer started the run for King's, tallying his first of the game and eleventh of the season at the 11:59 mark of the fourth quarter. Fellow first year Jack Wall broke open his career, scoring his first of the season a little over a minute later. Gambino added his second of the game at the 8:18 mark of the quarter, cutting the deficit to 12 with a score of 18-6 in favor of Lebanon Valley.
 
Ben Spencer found the back of the net for the second time on the night, continuing the scoring streak for the Monarchs. Another career first came next as first year Matt Kimberlin put 1 in with 3:44 left in the game. First year Jake Cierech closed out the Monarch scoring at the 2:52 mark, closing the gap to the smallest it had been since the first quarter. Lebanon Valley netted 1 more as Nick West scored with 1:50 left in the game.
 
The Monarchs fell to host Lebanon Valley by a final score of 19-9.
 
Alec Martin led the Monarchs with 4 total points on 2 goals and 2 assists while taking 7 total shots. Brendan Gambino and Ben Spencer each added 2 points on 2 goals apiece while Matt Kimberlin also ended the night with 2 points on a goal and an assist. Jake Cierech and Jack Wall each finished with 1 goal. Juniors Jackson Campbell and Matt Wall split time between the pipes with Campbell finishing with 2 saves, and the loss, and Wall finishing with 11 saves. The Monarchs went a combined 14-31 at the faceoff dot with sophomore Geno Casciello leading with a 7-13 record. Sophomore Nick Anderson anchored the defense with some big hits and commanding presence while picking up 2 groundballs and causing 2 turnovers.
 
The Dutchmen had 2 with 4 goals apiece in Trey Ralston and Jake Bollinger. Carson Frey led the team with 5 total points on 2 goals and 3 assists. Ben Weathersby commanded the defense with 2 caused turnovers and 7 groundballs. Nick Serrano got the win in net while making 8 saves and only allowing 2 goals. William Ward and Aidan Richardson split time in the second half, with Ward making 3 saves while allowing 7 to get by.
 
The Monarchs return home to McCarthy Stadium next Wednesday, March 30 as they play host to Arcadia for a 7:00 PM start.
