CHAMBERSBURG, PA (March 26, 2022) -- First year
Alli Lindsay came up one point shy of the single-game record as she totaled 10 points to help lead the King's College women's lacrosse team to their first win of the 2022 season, 17-5, over Wilson College on Saturday morning. The Monarchs improve to 1-6 overall while the Phoenix fall to 1-6 with the non-conference game.
Wilson (1-6) got the scoring started at the 13:52 mark of the first quarter before King's (1-6) scored two straight, including a goal from senior
Natasha Koslop on an assist by Lindsay just 12 second later before Lindsay netted her first goal of the game at the 11-minute mark.
The Phoenix tied up the game with 10:32 to play in the first before the Monarchs scored five straight goals stretching until the clock read 13:53 left in the half to hold a 7-2 advantage. The teams traded goals down the final ticks of the half with King's ahead, 8-3.
Lindsay struck first in the third on a man-up opportunity with 13:05 left, but Wilson put a tally on the board with 11:29 to play in the period with King's ahead 9-4. King's netted two more before the Phoenix tacked on a tally with 4:07 left in the quarter as the Monarchs held the 11-5 advantage. Koslop struck again before the end of the third as the Monarchs scored six unanswered goals to post the 17-5 final score.
Lindsay totaled 10 points in the game on six goals and four assists while adding seven ground balls, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Koslop recorded four goals and an assist, while first year
Kyleigh Dunworth posted two goals. Senior
Emily Sims netted a goal and had an assist with a team-high eight draw controls, and first year
Grace Venis matched her efforts with a goal and an assist in the win.
In goal, junior
Jessie Smalley earned the win as the starter, making four saves, while sophomore
Sidney Bush added three saves in the second half.
Emily Young and Sage Lague led Wilson with two points each, while Delaney Fulfer saved 11 shots in goal.
As a team, the Monarchs out shot the Phoenix 43-20 in the win and committed just 11 team turnovers. King's also edged out Wilson in draw controls (17-9) and ground balls (28-20).
The Monarchs are slated to begin MAC Freedom play on Wednesday as they travel to Arcadia University for a 7:00 p.m. start time in Glenside, Pa.
