DALLAS, PA (April 12, 2022) -- Misericordia University held the King's College women's lacrosse team scoreless in the opening period as the Monarchs fell, 15-4, to the Cougars on the road in MAC Freedom play on Wednesday afternoon. The Monarchs drop to 1-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference standings, while the Cougars improve to 7-5 with a 3-1 MAC Freedom record.
Misericordia (7-5, 3-1 MAC Freedom) stormed out in the opening period as they recorded seven unanswered goals to take an early 7-0 lead over the Monarchs.
King's (1-10, 0-4 MAC Freedom) started the second period firing as first year
Carli Komorowski found the net on a free-position attempt with 11:08 to go in the half to close within 7-1. The Cougars answered with three straight goals before first year
Alli Lindsay found
Natasha Koslop with 3:26 remaining in the half to trail 10-2. Two more Misericordia goals would see the Monarchs trailing 12-2 heading into the halftime break.
Lindsay came out of the break firing as she won the draw control and took the ball right to the hole as she scored an unassisted goal just 13 seconds into the third period. A much slower period saw Misericordia tally two goals to end the period with a 14-3 advantage over the Monarchs.
Senior
Emily Sims netted a goal with 3:00 left on the game clock, but the efforts were not enough as Misericordia scored once more with 1:15 to play as the Cougars handed King's the 15-4 loss in the MAC Freedom contest on Wednesday afternoon.
Lindsay led the Monarchs with two points on a goal and an assist while adding team-highs of three ground balls and three draw controls. First year
Gabby Lucchesi and sophomore
Brynn Pike also recorded team-bests of three ground balls each, while Sims and sophomore
Sarah McCormick caused four turnovers each. Sophomore
Sidney Bush recorded the loss as the starter, making one save, while junior
Jessie Smalley totaled three saves in the second half.
The Cougars were led by an eight-point, three ground-ball effort from Genevieve Montanye. Rachel Shook recorded seven draw controls in the win, while Lena Conway earned the win making five saves between the pipes.
King's will be off for the holiday break before returning to play on Wednesday, April 20 as they host Delaware Valley University in MAC Freedom play in McCarthy Stadium at 5:00 p.m.
