Men's Lacrosse Falls to Stevens in MAC Freedom Contest

WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 2, 2022) – The strong firepower of the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology was too much for the Monarchs to handle as King's fell 25-3 this afternoon.

The Ducks quickly began their triumphant game at Betzler Stadium, scoring a little over a minute into the game and never looking back. The Ducks went on to score 9 more goals in the first quarter to end the period up 10-0 over the Monarchs. Stevens had 8 different goal scorers in the first quarter.

The second quarter started with hard fought defense going both ways as neither team scored for the initial 3:10 of the second quarter. Senior Alec Martin finally broke open the scoring for both teams in the quarter and for the Monarchs in the game. Martin found the back of the net, for the first time today, to draw the Ducks lead to 9 as they led 10-1. The Ducks quickly fell back into their groove as they put another 5 goals in the net to take a 15-1 lead into halftime.

The third quarter turned out to be another scoreless one for the Monarchs while the Ducks continued to pile on their lead. The Ducks went on to score another 4 goals in the third quarter, stretching their lead to 18 as they were ahead of the Monarchs 19-1 at the end of the third quarter.

The Ducks opened the scoring in the fourth, but Martin took advantage of an extra man opportunity to net his second of the game to make the score 20-2 in favor of the Ducks. Another 3 goal run for the Ducks stretched their lead once again, but this time it was sophomore Ryan Barnes who stopped the run, taking advantage of yet another extra man opportunity to make the score 23-3. The Ducks would close out the game with 2 more goals to draw the final score to 25-3 for the Stevens victory.

The Monarchs were led by Alec Martin who ended the day with 2 points on 2 goals on 3 total shots. Ryan Barnes, senior Brendan Gambino, and graduate student Gabe Vansuch each ended the day with 1 point on 1 goal for Barnes and an assist each for Gambino and Vansuch. Geno Casciello and Brent Cassium each picked up 2 groundballs apiece. Junior Matt Wall got the start between the pipes and made 24 saves on the day; fellow junior Joe Plachcinski took over for the entire fourth quarter, making 5 saves in that time.

Shaun Spiegel led the Ducks with 7 points on 4 goals and 3 assists. Jake Zeyher got the start and the win in net while the Ducks team made a combined 4 saves on the day.

The Monarchs return to action next Wednesday, April 6 as they travel down to Williamsport to take on Lycoming College for 7:00 PM start.
