CENTER VALLEY, PA (April 23, 2022) -- Second period offensive struggles negated an early lead as the King's College women's lacrosse team fell, 17-8, on the road at DeSales University on Saturday morning in MAC Freedom play. With the loss, the Monarchs fall to 2-11 overall and 1-5 in the conference, while the Bulldogs improve to 7-8 with a 3-3 conference mark.
King's (2-11, 1-5 MAC Freedom) jumped out to an early 5-2 lead after the first period. First year
Chloe Burke got the scoring started with 10:47 left, before first year
Carli Komorowski found fellow-first year
Grace Venis to put the Monarchs up 2-0. Junior
Brynn Pike navigated her way through the DeSales (7-8, 3-3 MAC Freedom) defense to score an unassisted goal with 5:41 left to put the Monarchs ahead, 3-0.
The Bulldogs answered with two goals as the lead was cut to one, but senior
Emily Sims and first year
Alli Lindsay both benefited from man-up opportunities as they netted goals in the final 2:48 of the first period as King's held the 5-2 advantage.
DeSales scored eight unanswered goals with the final tally coming with 8:41 to play in the third as the Monarchs saw their lead erased to trail, 10-5. Lindsay scored her second goal of the day off an assist from Sims with 7:16 to go in the third to close within 10-6, but the Bulldogs answered with four straight goals to take the 13-6 advantage heading into the final period.
King's struck first in the final stanza as Lindsay tallied her third goal of the game just 54 seconds into the period, but the Bulldogs strung together three unanswered goals to go ahead 17-7. Venis found the net thanks to an assist from Lindsay with 27 seconds left in the game, but the efforts fell short in the 17-8 loss on the road in MAC Freedom play.
Lindsay led the Monarchs with four points on three goals and one assist on just seven shots, adding three ground balls, two draw controls, and a caused turnover. Sims and Venis each added two points as well for the offense. First year
Gabby Lucchesi picked up a team-high tying three ground balls, while Pike caused a team-best two turnovers. The sophomore goalie pair of
Sidney Bush and
