Sims Nets Milestone in Wild Win over Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 27, 2022) -- Senior Emily Sims netted five goals for five points to reach the 100-point milestone for her career as she led the King's College women's lacrosse team to an 11-6 win over cross-town rival Wilkes University in MAC Freedom play on Wednesday night. On senior day in McCarthy Stadium, the Monarchs improve to 3-11 overall and 2-5 in the MAC Freedom, while the Colonels fall to 3-12 with a 1-7 conference mark.

Sims got the Monarchs on the board first as she received a great pass from first year Grace Venis just 35 seconds into the game to give King's (3-11, 2-5 MAC Freedom) the early 1-0 lead. Wilkes (3-12, 1-7 MAC Freedom) tied the game with 10:17 to play in the period before Sims netted her second goal of the game with 2:48 left in the opening stanza thanks to an assist from first year Kyleigh Dunworth to put King's ahead, 2-1, at the end of the first.

The Colonels scored twice to start the second period, taking the 4-3 advantage, before first year Alli Lindsay got her first goal of the game on a free position shot to tie the contest with 9:40 left in the half. The two teams traded goals as first year Carli Komorowski scored off an assist from Lindsay with 4:00 left on the clock, but the Colonels got the final tally of the half 13 seconds later as the Monarchs trailed, 5-4, at the break.

King's went on a tear to start the second half, scoring three unanswered goals over the first 3:12 of the half. Wilkes broke up the Monarchs offensive attack with a goal with 2:42 to play in the third, but the Monarchs answered 12 seconds later as Sims secured the draw control and charged right to the net to tally her fourth goal of the game and put King's ahead 8-6 heading into the final period.

The fourth period went to the Monarchs as they out scored the Colonels, 3-0, with the final goal marking the career-milestone for Sims with 9:04 to play as the Monarchs secured the 11-6 win over Wilkes in the MAC Freedom contest.

Sims and Lindsay each totaled five points in the loss, as Sims scored five goals with team-highs of six draw controls and four caused turnovers, while Lindsay posted a hat trick of three goals with two assists and added five draw controls and a team-high tying four caused turnovers. Komorowski added a hat trick to help lead the offense, while Dunworth totaled two points on two assists. Sophomore Sidney Bush picked up the win as she made a career-best 12 saves and collected a team-high eight ground balls.

Maleah Cobham led Wilkes with four points on three goals and an assist, while Jessica White totaled a team-high four caused turnovers. Ashley Coughlin posted the loss in goal, making nine saves while picking up a team-high six ground balls.

As a team, the Monarchs edged out the Colonels in shots (29-28) and draw controls (14-7), while forcing 18 Wilkes turnovers.

King's will finish its 2022 season at home in McCarthy Stadium on Saturday, April 30th as they host FDU-Florham in MAC Freedom play. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
