Adelman and Porto Score, Women's Soccer Beats Juniata 2-0, Remains Unbeaten

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 14, 2022) --- The King's College women's soccer remained unbeaten to start the 2022 season defeating the visiting Juniata College Eagles 2-0 at McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday.

With the tie, King's moves to 4-0-1 on the season, while Juniata falls to 0-4-2.

Both teams traded throw-ins early in the contest, but it was the Monarchs who got the first shot off, as Liz Porto's seventh minute effort went wide left. However, it did not take long before King's broke through as Raina Adelman collected the pass from Grace Conover, rifling a shot off the underside of the crossbar before making its way into the net, giving the Monarchs a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute. Following the opening goal, King's continued to put pressure on the Eagles back-line as King's fired off five of the final seven shots of the half, to take the 1-0 lead into the break.

At the half King's held a decisive 7-2 advantage on total shots, including a 4-1 lead on shots on target. Juniata held a slight edge in corner kicks, 2-1.

The second half began much like the first, with both squads trading throw-ins during the first five minutes of the frame, but once again it would be all King's the rest of the way. The Monarchs were able to fire off the first shot of the half, as Adelman's effort was blocked before Juniata tallied their only shot. Following the lone Juniata shot, King's fired off four shots in the span of four minutes, before Porto doubled the King's advantage on a clinical finish, going top right to beat the keeper, after receiving a pass from Madelyn Reuter. After the Porto goal, King's would tally the final two shots of the contest, but were unable to add to the lead, defeating Juniata 2-0.

For the match, King's held a decided advantage in almost every category, outshooting Juniata 15-3 overall, including a 7-1 advantage on shots on target, while also holding a 9-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Adelman paced the offense tallying a goal on four total shots including two on target, while Porto was clinical scoring her goal on just two shots, with one being on target. Conover and Reuter each tallied an assist, while Conover and Leah Sankey both collected three shots. Tara Bender got the start between the sticks, turning aside one shot, picking up the clean sheet.

For the Eagles, Alyssa Bui, Lina Rahman, and Emma Greggo all had one shot, while Greggo tallied the only shot on target for Juniata.

The Monarchs continue their four-game home stand, as the squad will host Rutgers-Newark on Saturday for a homecoming matchup, looking to set the best start in school history, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
