Monarchs Blank Cedar Crest in 3-0 Win

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 22, 2022) -- For the last time in September, the King's College field hockey team gave their home crowd in McCarthy Stadium a show as they blanked Cedar Crest College, 3-0, in non-conference play on Wednesday night. The Monarchs head out for a lengthy road stretch as they improve to 4-4, while the Falcons drop to 1-5.

While the Falcons got some early looks, the Monarch dominated the first quarter of play before a penalty corner with 4:10 left in the opening period saw Abby Wolfe take a rebounded shot from Emma Clark and net her first goal of the season to put King's (4-4) ahead 1-0.

The Monarchs continued to control the pace of the game in the second period before earning a penalty stroke in the 19th minute that Sarah Zaleppa handled with ease, placing the ball perfectly in the top right corner of the net to increase the King's lead to 2-0. King's tallied the final shot of the half before cruising into the break with their 2-0 advantage over Cedar Crest (1-5).

The Falcons came out firing in the second half, but their early shot would be their lone attempt of the quarter as the Monarchs defense held them at bay and went into the final period with a convincing 2-0 edge. Cedar Crest made a strong push to start the fourth quarter, earning three penalty corner opportunities and tallying two shots, but the King's defense remained steadfast to hold the Falcons scoreless. The Monarchs then made their final push to put another goal on the board, and they did so successfully as Emma Bealla came on to score in the 56th minute.

King's maintained much of the possession down the stretch as they earned a strong 3-0 shutout win over Cedar Crest in McCarthy Stadium on Thursday evening.

Wolfe, Zaleppa, and Bealla all earned two points in the win, while Sara Whitesell led the offense with four shots including two on goal. Emma Clark also tallied three shots, and Hannah Robbins, Ali Tedik and Hannah Chocallo all added two. Ellie Glatz maintained the shutout with three saves in the win.

Morgan Frantz led Cedar Crest with two shots, while Kendall Heiney made seven saves in the loss.

As a team, the Monarchs dominated the shot column, out shooting Cedar Crest 20-5 and 10-3 with shots on target. King's also held the edge in penalty corners, 9-6, over the Falcons.

King's will begin their four-game road stretch on Saturday as they travel to Lycoming College for their first match up in program history. The MAC Freedom contest is set for a 1:00 p.m. start in Williamsport, Pa.
