Clark Tallies Two in MAC Freedom Win at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, PA (September 24, 2022) -- In their first ever meeting in program history, the King's College field hockey team defeated Lycoming College, 4-0, in the MAC Freedom contest at UPMC Field on Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs extend their win streak to four as they improve to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in MAC Freedom play, while the Warriors drop to 2-6 with an 0-2 conference mark.

King's (5-4, 2-0 MAC Freedom) dominated the opening quarter of action as they held a 5-0 edge in both shots and penalty corners, but the Lycoming (2-6, 0-2 MAC Freedom) defense held their own to post the scoreless tie at the end of the first.

The Monarchs continued their offensive onslaught in the second and finally broke the scoring open in the 26th minute as graduate student Hannah Robbins received a feed from junior Abby Wolfe on a penalty corner to put King's ahead, 1-0, heading into the halftime break.

It took just 1:11 for sophomore Emma Clark to put another tally on the board as she took a rebound off her own shot and sliced the ball into the net to increase the Monarchs lead to 2-0. Just a short 1:26 of action later, King's earned a penalty stroke, and senior Sarah Zaleppa remained perfect in penalty stroke opportunities as she netted her fourth penalty goal of the season to hold a 3-0 advantage over the Warriors.

King's would place one final mark in the scoring column in the 43rd minute as Clark received a pass from junior Ali Tedik to net her second goal of the game and shut the door on a Lycoming come back with a 4-0 edge heading into the final quarter of play.

The action slowed in the final quarter as the Monarchs cruised to their 4-0 win in the MAC Freedom contest on Saturday afternoon.

Clark paced the offensive efforts with four points on two goals off four shots, all on target, while Zaleppa and Robbins totaled two points a piece. Wolfe and Tedik each recorded one point in the win on their assists. Senior Sara Whitesell led the shots column for King's with six, while fellow-senior Jessie Smalley and junior Ashley Thalassinos added three each. Ellie Glatz posted the complete-game shutout for her third shutout of the season and second this week while adding two saves.

Katie Maguire and Adrianna Simpson both recorded shots in the loss for Lycoming, while Isabella Bobe made eight saves on her 12 shots faced.

King's will continue their road stretch as they travel to Moravian University on Tuesday, September 27. The non-conference contest is set for a 7:00 p.m. start in Bethlehem, Pa.
