Adelman's First Half Tally Sinks Albright 1-0, Women's Soccer Remains Unbeaten

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 24, 2022) --- The King's College women's soccer remained unbeaten to start the 2022 season improving to 6-0-2, defeating the visiting Lions of Albright College 1-0 on Saturday, dropping the Lions to a 1-5-3 record.

It was a fast start for the Monarchs (6-0-2) who were able to fire off the first shot of the game in the fourth minute. It only took another minute before King's opened the scoring as sophomore Raina Adelman let a shot go from outside of the box, finding the top left corner to beat the Albright keeper, putting the Monarchs up 1-0 in the fifth minute. Following the opening goal, the half remained firmly in control of King's who recorded the next six shots after the goal, before Albright tallied their first shot in the 21st minute. The Monarchs recorded the final shot of the half, as the teams entered the break, with King's on top 1-0.

Coming out of the half the Lions upped the pressure looking for a way to get back into the game, resulting in a more even half. However, once again it was the Monarchs who got the first shot of the half away, this time in the 49th minute. Albright responded, tallying their first shot of the half just three minutes later. The teams traded shots and possession for much of the middle part of the half, before the Lions pressure intensified yet again. The Monarchs' defense was strong though holding the Albright attack at bay, giving King's the 1-0 win.

King's held a decisive advantage statistically, outshooting Albright 14-4, including a 6-1 mark on shots on target, while also holding a 5-2 lead on corners.

Adelman led the Monarchs attack, collecting two points on one goal, tallying four shots, including three on target, while senior Angelina Falcone and sophomores Leah Sankey and Liz Porto all added two shots, with Porto and Sankey getting one shot on target each. Graduate student Tara Bender got the start in goal, making one save and collecting her fourth clean sheet on the year.

Albright had four players each tally one shot, as Maggie Williams, Emily Serpico, Caroline Perry, and Stephanie Escalante who all recorded one, while Escalante picked up the lone shot on target. Alexis Solt got the start in goal for the Lions, making three saves on four shots, picking up the loss, as McKenna Levan replaced Solt for the second half, making two saves.

King's will look to keep the unbeaten run going as the Monarchs travel to Collegeville, PA to take on Ursinus College on Wednesday night with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 pm.
