COLLEGEVILLE, PA (September 28, 2022) --- The King's College women's soccer team's unbeaten run to start the season ended on Wednesday evening, as the Monarchs fell to Ursinus College 3-0 in Collegeville. With the loss King's falls to 6-1-2 on the year, while Ursinus improves to 4-3-1.
It was a back-and-forth affair early on as King's (6-1-2) and Ursinus (4-3-1) traded a shot a piece in the opening ten minutes, before graduate goalkeeper
Tara Bender was forced into a save in the 11
th minute. The squads continued to alternate opportunities, until the Bears broke through scoring late in the half, giving the Bears a 1-0 lead in the 43
rd minute, which is how the game stood heading into the break.
Coming out of the break Ursinus looked to put the game out of reach, but Bender was up to the task, as the Bears tallied five shots between the 49
th and 53
rd minutes, forcing Bender to make three more saves. The Bears eventually broke through adding two insurance markers, the first coming in the 70
th minute, while the second came in the 74
th minute. The Monarchs pushed to get back into the game, but were unable to solve the Ursinus backend, falling 3-0.
Ursinus outshot King's, while the Monarchs had the advantage in corner kicks.
Offensively, the Monarchs were led by first-year
Jenna Waldbillig, junior
Gabriella Porchetta, and senior
Angelina Falcone, who all recorded one shot. Bender got the start in net and made five saves on the evening.
Alex Chalmers, Adriana Careless, and Carly Henning paced the Ursinus attack, as each picked up two points on one goal, while Kalli Roskos totaled one point on an assist. Kaela Frenchman got the start in net for the Bears, making one save.
The Monarchs will look to rebound on Saturday for their MAC Freedom opener, as the squad heads to Hoboken, NJ to take on Stevens Institute of Technology, with kickoff set for noon.
