Field Hockey Battles in 1-0 Loss at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, PA (September 27, 2022) -- It took just over 45 minutes to put a tally on the board at John Makuvek Field on Tuesday evening in the non-conference contest, but seconds into the final quarter the Moravian College Greyhounds netted the lone goal of the night to hand the King's College field hockey team the 1-0 loss. The loss snaps a four-game win streak by the Monarchs as they drop to 5-5 overall, while the Greyhounds improve to 4-5 in 2022.

It was a fast-paced first half that saw Moravian with a slight edge in shots, 5-4, in the opening 30 minutes while the Monarchs had the advantage in penalty corners, 3-2, but neither team could convert as the teams entered the halftime break in a scoreless tie.

King's (5-5) had a great opportunity to break the scoring drought in the 34th minute as they earned three consecutive penalty corners, but the Moravian (4-5) defense prevented goals on all three attempts. About five minutes of action later, it was the Greyhounds turn to string together three penalty corner opportunities, but this time the Monarchs defense put on a clinic to maintain the 0-0 tie heading into the final 15 minutes of play.

Just 22 seconds into the fourth, Moravian's offense broke through as Sydney Anderson and found a streaking Bekkah Kehoe down the right side of the field to sneak a shot past Ellie Glatz and put the hosts ahead, 1-0. The Monarchs offense turned up their intensity and put the pressure on Moravian's defense, maintaining much of the possession in the final minutes of the contest, but each chance came up just short as King's fell, 1-0, in a non-conference battle in Bethlehem on Tuesday night.

Seniors Sara Whitesell and Sarah Zaleppa and sophomore Emma Clark led the King's offense with two shots each, while four other Monarchs recorded a shot attempt as well. Glatz was strong as she posted four saves in goal in the 60-minute game.

Three different Greyhounds totaled two shots, while Kehoe netted her tally on her lone shot of the game. Brooke Wilkinson matched Glatz's four saves for the Greyhounds in the net.

In the evenly matched contest, King's finished the night with the advantage in shots, 10-9, and penalty corners, 11-8, while the two teams were even in shots on target at five a piece.

King's will be back on the road Thursday night as they travel to Madison, NJ to take on Drew University in non-conference play. The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. start in Ranger Stadium.
