WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 3, 2022) --- The King's College women's soccer team tallied three second half goals, as the Monarchs cruised to a 4-0 win over Neumann University at McCarthy Stadium.
King's coming out of the gates looking to get to 2-0, and there was no looking back. The Monarchs rattled off the first seven shots of the game, with the first coming from
Leah Sankey just thirty seconds into the game.
Neumann got their first shot of the game from Caitlyn Llewellyn in the 23
rd minute, before King's continued their first half dominance.
Closing in the final five minutes of the first half
Lauren Chapple got the Monarchs on the board as her cross through the six-yard box got blocked and redirected into a yawning cage, giving King's a 1-0 lead in the 40
th minute.
The halftime stats were all in favor of King's as the Monarchs outshot the Knights 16-1, including 7-1 on shots on target, while garnering three corner kicks, to Neumann's one.
The second half followed a similar script to the first, as King's continued their dominance over Neumann, as the Monarchs ripped off the first eight shots of the half. During the stretch, the Monarchs added to their lead as
Anya Chervak took the Sankey feed and beat Neumann goalkeeper Leona Macrina, to push the King's lead to 2-0.
Neumann was able to get their second shot on target of the game as Chloe Britton forced a save from goalkeeper
Tara Bender.
King's again went on a run, securing the next six shots, before two straight from the Knights.
With just under eight minutes to play, King's added to the lead, this time
Summer Bates collected her first career goal, as she collected the cross from
Grace Conover, to push the lead to 3-0.
With time running out,
Megan Thompson tallied her first career goal striking one from outside of the 18-yard box up and over the outstretched hands of Macrina, and with 13 seconds left, King's moved in front 4-0.
The final shots finished 34-4 in favor of the Monarchs, with 15 of those efforts being on target, while the Knights got two on target.
On the King's side, Bates and Thompson both tallied their first career goals, while
Madelyn Reuter and
Angelina Falcone led the squad, each registering six shots.
For Neumann, four players each tallied a single shot, as Britton, Llewellyn, Kaitlin Thomas, and Rebecca Spence, tallied those shots.
With the win, King's improves to 2-0 for the first time since 2017.
On the Neumann side the loss drops the Knights to 0-2.
The Monarchs return to action on Monday as they travel to Reading, PA to take on Alvernia University, with kickoff scheduled for 7 pm, and chance to continue their best start since 2017.
