Monarchs Stay Hot in Shutout Win at Immaculata

IMMACULATA, PA (September 8, 2022) -- The King's College women's soccer team continued their hot streak to start the 2022 season as they improve to 3-0-1 with an impressive 3-0 shutout win at Immaculata University on Thursday afternoon in the non-conference contest. With the loss, the Mighty Macs fall to 0-3 to open their 2022 schedule.

King's (3-0-1) opened the scoring in the ninth minute as Leah Sankey played a misdirected pass from the Mighty Macs to the top of the box and made a shifty move to beat the Immaculata (0-3) goalie and put the Monarchs ahead 1-0 early. The Monarchs continued to push the pace but the Mighty Macs held King's at bay to head into the halftime break with King's leading, 1-0. King's held a strong 6-2 advantage in shots and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks in the opening stanza.

The second half was dominated by the Monarchs as they out shot the Mighty Macs 15-3 in the final 45 minutes of action. A centering pass set up back-to-back shots from King's that Immaculata's defense handled, but the Monarchs remained persistent as Liz Porto fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the net to see the King's lead increase to 2-0 in the 50th minute of play.

After the pace slowed for the next 22 minutes of action, King's struck with their final blow of the match as Raina Adelman netted her first collegiate goal as she played a through ball perfectly past the Mighty Macs goal keeper and saw the King's lead increase to 3-0 with just under 18 minutes to play in the contest. The Monarchs allowed just one more Immaculata shot in the final minutes of action as King's posted the impressive 3-0 shutout win on the road.

Grace Conover led the Monarchs offensive attack with five shots, including three on goal, while Porto tallied three shots, all on target, to go along with her goal. Additionally, Adelman, Sankey, Anya Chervak, and Megan Thompson totaled two shots a piece in the contest. Goalkeeper Tara Bender was solid between the pipes yet again as she earned the complete-game shutout with one save in the match.

Five different Mighty Macs notched shots in the loss with just Kelsey Caldarelli's shot on target. Catie Paoini recorded the loss in goal despite an eight-save effort.

As a team, the Monarchs held the advantage in shots (21-5), shots on goal (11-1), and corner kicks (6-3) in the full-team effort.

King's looks to remain unbeaten as they return to play next Wednesday, September 14 at 7:00 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium when they take on the Eagles of Juniata College.
