Men's Hockey Falls to Nazareth 5-0 on Friday

ROCHESTER, NY (January 20, 2023) --- The King's College men's ice hockey team traveled to Rochester, New York to battle Nazareth University, falling to the Golden Flyers 5-0 on Friday. With the loss King's falls to 3-10-2 overall and 2-7-1 in UCHC play, while Nazareth improves to 10-4-2 overall and 8-2-1 in conference.
 
Nazareth (10-4-2, 8-2-1) came out of the gates, starting quickly, tallying the first two shots of the game, forcing senior goaltender Ismael Ralsten into early action. King's (3-10-2, 2-7-1) replied right away with their first shot, as sophomore Brendan Krawczyk's effort was turned aside. The teams traded chances for much of the period before the Golden Flyers jumped in front. On a 5-on-3 advantage Ethan Louisos opened the scoring at 15:15 to put Nazareth up 1-0. Just over a minute later, Nazareth doubled their lead at 16:40 on a goal from Joseph Schaefer to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
 
The second period was much like the first, as Nazareth was on the front foot. The Golden Flyers doubled their lead in the middle frame, scoring twice to extend the lead to 4-0 after 40 minutes of play. Like the first period, the Golden Flyers scored both goals late in the period, as Keith Davenport scored at 16:38, before Henry McKinney scored at 18:41. King's pushed to get back into the game in the third period but were able to find the back of the net. Late in the game, Nazareth added one more goal, taking the game 5-0.
 
Ralsten returned to action in goal, turning away 35 of 39 shots in two periods of action, before sophomore Matt Bidini came in for the third period, making 12 saves on 13 shots. Offensively, King's were led by senior Rob Sheehan and sophomore Tyler Blanchard, who both tallied three shots in the contest. The Monarchs won 25 of 62 face-offs, led by sophomore Patrick Nowak, who won 10 of 18 draws. King's went 1-3 on the penalty kill and 0-4 on the power-play.
 
Raphael Provencher got the start in net, turning away all 18 shots faced. The Golden Flyers were led by Louisos who tallied two points in the contest on a goal and an assist. Nazareth went 2-3 on the power-play and going 4-4 on the penalty kill, while winning 37 of 62 draws.
 
King's will stay on the road as the Monarchs finish off the weekend set with Nazareth at 4 p.m. on Saturday in Rochester, NY.
