Monarchs Fall to Ducks

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 17, 2023) -- The King's College women's soccer team competed against a tough Stevens team Tuesday night. The Ducks pulled off a 8-0 victory, but the Monarchs didn't go down quietly.

The Monarchs (5-7-2, 1-2-1) faced a challenging opponent, Stevens (5-6-2, 3-1-0), in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom matchup. The Ducks proved to be offensively dominating in the first half, scoring five goals, three coming off the foot of Rachel Rouse. The Monarchs had three corner kick attempts early in the first pressuring the Ducks defense, but unfortunately, none of their attempts resulted in a first half goal.

The Monarchs went into the second half down 5-0, but they didn't let the score deficit defeat them. Maryanna Garcia helped lead a second half charge placing a shot on net, and Dasha Atkins also had her chance at goal. The few shots attempts, however, were not enough to overpower the strong offense that Stevens showed up to the game with.

The Ducks scored three times in the second half, resulting in a 8-0 win over the Monarchs. On the night Garcia led King's in shots with two, followed by Atkins with one. In goal Ashlyn Crawford recorded eight saves for the Monarchs.

The Ducks were paced by Rouse, who notched a hat trick in the first half. Amelia Rehrig, Caitlin Carroll, Sarah Wnorowski, Tia Saade, and Diana Cavaleri also scored for Stevens.

The Monarchs will return to play Saturday, October 21 as they travel to Lebanon Valley College for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
