WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 21, 2023) --
Davina Krappa delivered her first collegiate goal in the King's College field hockey team's 7-1 loss to DeSales University on Saturday evening at McCarthy Stadium in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play. The Monarchs now stand at 3-14 overall and 0-5 in the MAC Freedom standings, while the Bulldogs remain unbeaten in conference play at 5-0 with a 7-7 overall record.
The King's (3-14, 0-5 MAC Freedom) defense had a strong showing through the first 15 minutes, thwarting all four of the DeSales (7-7, 5-0 MAC Freedom) attempts to start the game as the contest remained scoreless, 0-0, at the end of the first. The Bulldogs broke through the Monarchs defense in the second, tallying a pair of goals. King's earned three late penalty corners in the final 45 seconds of the half, but each attempt came up shy as the Monarchs trailed, 2-0, at the break.
The visitors tacked on an early goal, but the Monarchs had a response as they were awarded their first penalty stroke opportunity of the season in the 37
th minute. Krappa stepped up and delivered the ball into the top right corner of the cage as King's closed within 3-1. The fourth quarter went to DeSales as the Bulldogs scored four goals in the final 15 minutes of the contest to hand King's the 7-1 loss in the MAC Freedom match up at McCarthy Stadium.
Krappa earned two points on her goal, while
Hannah Chocallo had a team-best three shots in the loss.
Grace Venis put up another strong effort, thwarting 13 attempts in the cage for King's.
Maddie Trocki tallied four goals to lead the Bulldogs, while Jordyne Strong had a team-best nine shots with a goal and an assist. Kayla Yeatman picked up the win in goal for DeSales, making one save in 53:35 of action.
The Monarchs will be on the road for their final two contests of the regular season, first making the short trip up to Misericordia University on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. before finishing the slate at Lebanon Valley College on Saturday, October 28.
