DALLAS, PA (October 25, 2023) -- On the road on Wednesday evening, the King's College field hockey team fell by a 5-0 decision to the host Misericordia University in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play. The Monarchs now stand at 3-15 overall and 0-6 in the MAC Freedom, while the Cougars improved to 4-11 and 2-4 in the conference.
The King's (3-15, 0-6 MAC Freedom) battled through the opening quarter, keeping Misericordia (4-11, 2-4 MAC Freedom) out of the scoring column into the final minute of the frame before Maddie Griscavage dribbled to the end line to find Lily Metress at the left post for a score with 53 seconds remaining in the first. The Cougars tacked on another goal 1:02 into the second off a penalty corner as the Monarchs trailed, 2-0, at the halftime break.
A scoreless third quarter featured some strong defensive stands by King's, blocking two shots while Venis made a save as the MAC Freedom contest went into the final quarter with the Monarchs still trailing, 2-0. The pestering Cougars offense capitalized on some late opportunities, and despite a shot form
Davina Krappa that was saved by the Misericordia goalkeeper, King's was unable to get on the board in the final 15 minutes of action before falling, 5-0, to the Cougars on Wednesday night.
Krappa tallied a shot in the loss, while
Allie Chocallo posted a defensive save. Additionally, Venis finished the night with six saves in the cage.
Lily Metress recorded a hat trick with three goals on a team-high 12 shots with seven on target to pace the Cougars. Sarah Bogina secured the win as she made a save for Misericordia.
King's will travel to Annville, Pa. for their final regular-season contest in the 2023 season on Saturday, October 28. Game time at Lebanon Valley for the MAC Freedom match up is set for 6:00 p.m.
