Monarchs Fall to Misericordia

DALLAS, PA (OCTOBER 24,2023) -- The King's College women's volleyball team drop their last road Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest of the regular season against the Cougars of Misericordia (14-3, 4-2) 0-3 Tuesday night. The Monarchs are now 14-10 overall and 1-5 in conference play. King's currently sit at sixth place in conference standings. 

Misericordia took an early 15-5 lead within the first set of the evening. The Monarchs tried to dig themselves out with a late 4-1 run to make the score 16-9. The Cougars would answer back and win the set 25-9. 

The second set was an interesting one as the score tied seven different times. King's started off strong with a 6-2 jolt that included a pair of kills by Kathy Shepherd (So.) and an ace by Devan Moses (So.). The hosts revolted back with their own 4-2 burst to tie the score 8-8. From then on it was a battle between both squads, each trying to break free from one another. The Monarchs were down when Madisyn Heiser-Elsea (Fy.) made one last attempt with a kill to push her team to the finish line, making it 23-19. Misericordia eventually won 25-20. 

King's came back with vengence in the third and final set of the night with seven unanswered points that included tallies by Shepherd, Heiser-Elsea, and Theresa Lynch (So). The Cougars responded with their own 8-1 spurt to tie the matchup 8-8. It was a point for point bout soon after before Misericordia defeated the Monarchs 25-14. 

King's ended the contest with 18 kills, 13 assists, six aces, 16 digs, and a hitting percentage of .055. Shepherd led the team with five kills. Keely Hoban (Jr.) aided the unit with five helpers and three digs. Morgan Williams (So.) paced the defensive end with four digs. 

Misericordia's Fiona Pyfer had a team high of 14 kills with Cassandra Genduso adding her own 10. Jenna Schuda fueled the Cougars with 23 assists and Meghan Peters had seven digs. 

The Monarchs are back on the road on for a match at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 28th to battle against Centenary (NJ).  The crew will be back in McGrane Gymnasium for their last home match of the regular season to take on MAC Freedom opponent FDU-Florham at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1st
