Quick and Maciejczyk Start Off Strong in Season Opener

SCRANTON, PA (OCTOBER 28, 2023) -- The King's College men's and women's swimming team opened their season on Saturday afternoon to take on the Pacers of Marywood and the Colonels of Wilkes in Scandlon Natatorium. The men lost to the Pacers 37.50-120.50 and to the Colonels 27-116. While the women lost to Marywood 26-71 and to Wilkes 26-75. 

Men's Swimming:
Anthony Ursini (Sr.) started the meet for King's in the 1000-yard freestyle and finished third in 13:53.16.  Christopher Maciejczyk (Fy.) made his first appearance in the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:26.50 time to finish third. Matthew Maciejczyk (Fy.) competed in the 50-yard freestyle and timed in at 27.96 and Cody Zheng (Jr.) had a time of 53.96. 

Blaze Graham (So.) placed third in the 200-yard IM at 2:25.22. Maciejczyk tied for fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a 1:03.18 time and Ursini rounded the Monarchs at 1:05.00. Finishing the individual events, Maciejczyk had a time of 1:17.72 in th 100-yard backstroke. 

The Monarchs placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:15.35 that included Graham, Ursini, and the Maciejczyk brothers. 

Women's Swimming:
Maddison Quick (Jr.) started off strong for King's as she placed first in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:13.54. Roni McClelland (Jr.) had a time of 33.05 in the 50-yard freestyle. 

Quick once again took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.32. In the last individual event, McClelland had a time of 1:32.92 in the 100-yard breaststroke. 

The Monarchs are back in action on Saturday, November 11th at 1 p.m. to take on cross county rivals Wilkes.
