Monarchs Battle Until the Final Whistle in 3-1 Loss to Ospreys

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 4, 2023) -- The King's College women's soccer team fought hard and scored an early goal against Stockton University, but ultimately fell in a tenacious battle that saw the Monarchs come up just short 3-1.

Jenna Waldbillig got the Monarchs (4-5-1) off to a hot start over the undefeated visiting Ospreys (7-0-5) scoring in the 14th minute of the match to give King's an early lead. She became only the second athlete this year to notch a goal against a tough Stockton defense. The Monarchs attack pressured the Ospreys goal by taking two more shots across the half that saw both teams thriving on the defensive end.

With both teams re-charged going into the second frame, the Monarchs worked hard on defense fending off nine Osprey shots across the half. Goalkeeper Ashlyn Crawford made three crucial saves in goal to keep the Monarchs in the game. Although the Monarchs found themselves on the defense, the squad did attempt two corner kicks, but unfortunately, the ball never found the goal.

The Ospreys offense opened the floodgates in the 56th minute when Katie Ambos scored off a cross from Emily Hauck. Hauk recreated the same play in the 70th minute, this time finding Grace Tecce to give the Ospreys a late edge in the closing stages. Megan Morris notched Stocktons final goal in the 73rd minute to help lead her squad to victory.

Waldbillig posted her second goal of the season tonight off the only shot she took. Mikaela Majcher picked up an assist for the Monarchs. Off the bench, Maryanna Garcia led the Monarchs offense taking four shots, placing three on frame. In goal Crawford posted three saves.

Ambos, Morris, and Tecce each scored one goal for the Ospreys. Tecce also picked up an assist while Hauck tallied two assists on the afternoon.

The Monarchs will travel to Delaware Valley University Saturday, October 7 to take on the Aggies at 12:00 p.m. in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom contest, and return to McCarthy Stadium to take on Alvernia University Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m.
