Monarchs and Aggies Finish in a Draw After Exciting Second Half

DOYLESTOWN, PA (October 7, 2023) -- After trading shots in the first half, both the Monarchs and the Aggies offenses' exploded after the break, bringing a toe-to-toe thriller that came down to the final minute, and see the game end in a 2-2 tie.

King's College (4-5-2, 1-0-1) and Delaware Valley University (6-5-2, 0-1-1) had to settle for a draw on a rainy afternoon in Doylestown. The Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contest saw both teams go into the second half with no score and the Monarchs leading in shots 7-4.

The pace of the game flipped upside down in the second half as the Monarchs took a late advantage in the 62nd minute when Leah Sankey scored her second goal of the year. Brooke Finlay recorded an assist on the play. Delaware Valley took no time to retaliate, as Savannah Rennix evened the scored eleven seconds later.

In the next 20 minutes both squads had their attempts at a goal, but it would be the Monarchs who broke the tie when Maryanna Garcia found Mikaela Majcher for a goal in the 84th minute. This marked Majcher's first goal of the season.

Both teams fought hard the final five minutes, but the Aggies were able to find the equalizer in the 89th minute to force a 2-2 tie that stayed through the final whistle. 

Sankey and Majcher found the back of the net for the Monarchs, each scoring on their only shots. Finlay and Garcia wound up with one assist each, while Garcia also recorded five shots. Aspen Wallin made three saves in net.

Rennix lead the Aggies, taking five shots and totaling one goal. Marley Bramsway scored the game's tying goal in the 89th minute. Jess Williamson picked up an assist and goalkeeper Viola Anderson had five saves.

The Monarchs will return to McCarthy Stadium for a nonconference match against Alvernia University Tuesday, October 10 at 7 p.m.
