WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 15, 2023) --- The King's College returned to action for the first time since spring break, falling to visiting Alvernia University 15-5 on Wednesday evening from McCarthy Stadium. With the loss, King's falls to 1-4 on the season, while Alvernia improves to 5-1.

Alvernia (5-1) started quickly, tallying the first two goals of the game, taking a 2-0 lead at 13:41 off two markers from Sherrin Smith. King's (1-4) responded as senior
Brynn Pike went coast-to-coast, finding the back of the net, and cutting the deficit in half at 11:06. The Golden Wolves finished the opening quarter on the front foot, ending on a 6-0, to take an 8-1 advantage after the first quarter. Alvernia continued their run into the second quarter, as the Golden Wolves recorded the first two goals of the frame, pushing the lead to 10-1 at 10:50. Sophomore
Chloe Burke answered for the Monarchs at 9:09, cutting it to a 10-2 Alvernia lead, before the Golden Wolves scored twice late in the quarter, taking a 12-2 advantage at the half.

The Monarchs struck first in the third quarter, as Burke collected her second goal of the game at 12:59. The Golden Wolves notched the next two goals, before junior
Olivia Benner answered at 4:47, making it a 14-4 game heading to the fourth quarter. Each team scored once in the fourth quarter, with Alvernia scoring first, before sophomore
Kyleigh Dunworth scored on a free position shot, as the game ended 15-5 in favor of the Golden Wolves.

Sidney Bush got the start in cage, finishing with 12 saves on 24 shots in the first half, before senior
Jessie Smalley finished the game, collecting nine saves. Burke led the attack, recording two goals, while Benner, Pike, and Dunworth all added one goal. The Monarchs came away with five draw wins on 24 opportunities, as Dunworth corralled two. King's forced Alvernia into eight turnovers, causing three of them, led by sophomore
Alli Lindsay, who caused two, as the Monarchs went 2-3 on free position chances.

Kasey Fox got started in goal, notching one save in the first half, before Kirsten Lake came in, and did not record a save, giving up three goals. Haleigh Lackner led the Golden Wolves with five points on five goals, while Smith added three goals. Alvernia controlled 19 draws, caused eight Monarchs turnovers, and went 6-12 on free position opportunities.
