Women's Lacrosse Falls to Hartwick on Saturday

WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 18, 2023) --- The King's College women's lacrosse team closed out their four-game home stand, falling to visiting Hartwick College 17-2 on Saturday evening at McCarthy Stadium. With the loss, King's falls to 1-5, while Hartwick improves to 3-1.
 
Hartwick (3-1) started quickly, recording the first three goals of the game, taking a 3-0 lead at 13:36. King's (1-5) responded, as sophomore Kyleigh Dunworth found the back of the cage at 10:36 to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Hawks closed the opening quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 9-1 advantage after the opening 15 minutes. Hartwick continued the run in the second quarter, notching three more goals, as the Hawks took a 12-1 lead into halftime.
 
Hartwick extended the lead to 14-1 early in the third quarter, before Dunworth scored her second goal of the game with 4:49 remaining in the frame, making it a 14-2 game heading to the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, the Hawks added three more goals to come away with the 17-2 victory.
 
Senior Jessie Smalley started the contest in the cage, making 10 saves on 27 shots. Dunworth tallied both goals for the Monarchs, while also recording two shots on goal, while sophomore Alli Lindsay also added two shots at the cage. King's collected six of 23 draws, led by sophomore Chloe Burke who corralled two, while the Monarchs forced two Hawks turnovers, as both Lindsay and first-year Maria Schneider caused one each.
 
Maddi Morrison got the start in goal and finished with four saves. Kristen Vaccarelli paced the Hawks attack, registering six points on six goals. Hartwick controlled 17 draws and caused five Monarch turnovers.
 
King's heads back out on the road, as the Monarchs take on Bryn Athyn on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Bryn Athyn, PA.
