Baseball Swept in MAC Freedom Doubleheader at Stevens

HOBOKEN, NJ (March 18, 2023) -- In a road Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) doubleheader, the King's College baseball team dropped a pair of contests, 15-0 in game one and 11-2 in game two, to the host Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon in Hoboken, NJ. With the losses, the Monarchs drop to 6-7 overall and 1-4 in MAC Freedom paly, while the Ducks improve to 11-5 and 3-2 in the conference standings.
 
Game 1 – L, 0-15:
The host Stevens (11-5, 3-2 MAC Freedom) dominated the opener, plating three runs in the first and four in the third before exploding for seven runs in the fourth to take a 14-0 advantage over King's (6-7, 1-4 MAC Freedom) early. The Ducks put up one final run in the sixth to post the 15-0 win in the first game of the MAC Freedom doubleheader.
 
Nick Ciszak and Zach Day recorded hits in the loss for the Monarchs. Matt Martin was awarded the loss as the starter, allowing five earned runs on seven hits in 3.0 innings of work. Quin Acchione was strong in relief, giving up just one run on three hits in 2.0 innings, while Devin Maciejewksi threw a scoreless final inning with no hits.
 
Stevens was led by four with two hits each, including a game-high four RBIs on two hits with two runs from Christian Kreiser. Justin Doyle went the distance for the Ducks in the opener, throwing 7.0 scoreless innings.
 
Game 2 – L, 2-11:
The second game of the doubleheader saw Stevens jump out to another early advantage, putting up a pair of three-run innings to start and added another run in the third to hold a 7-0 edge after three innings.
 
The Monarchs got on the board in the top of the fourth as Brandon Loner led off with a single to right field to set up a two-run home run to center field from Justin Richards for the first of his collegiate career to see King's pull within 7-2.
 
Stevens plated another two in the bottom of the inning before tallying two runs in the sixth as they handed the Monarchs an 11-2 loss in game two.
 
Five different Monarchs put up a hit in the loss, while Richards drove in both with is home run. Adin Hoderewski posted the loss in 5.1 innings, giving up all 11 earned runs on eight hits, while Will Hronich threw a scoreless 0.2 innings.
 
Kreiser led Stevens again as he went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, while Jack Irby drove in a team-best three RBIs in the win in game two. Ryan Shea was awarded the win in relief, throwing 2.0 innings and allowing no runs and no hits.

King's will host Stevens in the final game of the MAC Freedom series on Monday, March 20 at 3:30 p.m. at Lipo Field.
