WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 20, 2023) -- With the game tied heading into the final frames, Stevens Institute of Technology plated two runs in the top of the eighth on their way to a 7-5 win over the King's College baseball team on Monday afternoon. The Monarchs drop to 6-8 overall and 1-5 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play, while the Ducks improve to 12-5 with a 4-2 conference mark with their win at Lipo Field.

It was an exciting start to the MAC Freedom contest, as Stevens (12-5, 4-2 MAC Freedom) tallied three runs on four hits to take the early 3-0 advantage. King's (6-8, 1-5 MAC Freedom) chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the inning as
Nick Ciszak worked a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A single through the left side from
Chase Yochem put runners on the corners as a line out to the left fielder from
Zach Day drove in Ciszak to see King's pull within 3-1 after the opening inning.

Both defenses settled in over the next inning and a half before King's tied the game in the bottom of the third. Ciszak reached on a one-out walk and advanced to third on a single from Yochem and a fielder's choice from Day. A Brando Loner walk loaded the bases with two outs to set up a
Justin Richards double to left field that would drive in two and tie the MAC Freedom contest, 3-3, after three innings of play.

The next four innings saw the game in a defensive stalemate as there were just seven hits combined over the stretch. Stevens broke through the scoring drought in the top of the eighth, bringing in two runs on three hits to go ahead, 5-3. The Ducks defense retired all six batters faced down the stretch as the Monarchs fell, 5-3, on Monday afternoon in MAC Freedom action at Lipo Field.

King's was led by a 2-for-4 effort from Yochem, while Richards drove in two out of three runs in the loss.
Michael Marmolejos posted a double for his hit in the game, while
Zach Day had one RBI and one run scored. Additionally, Ciszak scored twice for the Monarchs.
Josh Kilvitis was awarded the loss in 2.0 innings of relief, giving up two earned runs on four hits.

The Ducks saw leadoff hitter Ben Tobio go 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI, while both Christian Kreiser and Chris Davis add three hits each in the win. Anthony Pron earned the win in the final 3.0 innings, allowing just one hit in a scoreless outing for Stevens.

King's will have a quick turnaround as they're set to take on Marywood University in Scranton tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The Monarchs will also host Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Lipo Field.
