Cahill Notches Lone Goal as Monarchs Drop Contest with Alfred

ALFRED, NY (MARCH 18, 2023) --- The Kings's College men's lacrosse team hit the road, falling to host Alfred University 22-1 on Saturday from Alfred, NY. With the loss, King's falls to 0-6, while Alfred improves to 4-2.
 
Alfred (4-2) opened the scoring early, taking a 1-0 lead just over a minute into the contest. The Saxons continued to play strong in the opening quarter, finishing with an 8-0 advantage after the first 15 minutes. Alfred pushed the lead to 9-0 early in the second quarter, before King's (0-6) had their first good chance on the afternoon, as sophomore Ben Spencer's shot went wide. The Saxons added four more goals in the frame to take a 13-0 lead at the break.
 
The third quarter was much of the same, as Alfred extended the lead with four goals in the quarter, making it a 17-0 game heading to the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Monarchs found some life, as King's notched 12 shots in the frame, opposed to Alfred's 16. Alfred ended up scoring five more goals in the frame, before junior Redmond Cahill beat the final buzzer to put the Monarchs on the board, as the game finished 22-1.
 
Senior Joe Plachcinski got the start in the cage, and collected 22 saves on 44 shots, in 55 minutes of action, before senior Matt Wall finished the game and did not face a shot. Cahill notched the lone Monarchs goal, while Spencer recorded five shots, with three on goal. King's went 7-25 in the face-off circle, led by junior Geno Casciello, who won 5-17. The Monarchs caused 5 Saxon turnovers, with first-year Logan Byers and sophomore Ryan Dolphin, forcing two each, while King's went 3-3 while a man down, and 0-3 on man-up opportunities.
 
Four players received action in the cage for the Saxons, as Quinn Sullivan recorded one save in just over a quarter of action, to collect the win. Peter Colburn led the Alfred attack, tallying eight points on four goals and four assists, while Marcus Darminio added seven points, on five goals and two assists. The Saxons won 18 of 25 face-offs, while forcing the Monarchs into 19 turnovers.
 
King's returns home to close out the non-conference portion of their schedule, as the Monarchs host Marywood at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at McCarthy Stadium.
