PURCHASE, NY (March 25, 2023) --- The King's College women's lacrosse team wrapped up non-conference action, falling to Manhattanville 16-4 on Saturday in Purchase, NY. With the loss, King's falls to 1-7, while Manhattanville improves to 6-0.
It was a defensive battle to start, as both teams shut down any chances for either side until the midway through the opening quarter. King's (1-7) opened the scoring at 7:47, as junior
Olivia Benner took the pass from sophomore
Alli Lindsay to put the Monarchs up 1-0. Manhattanville (6-0) replied by scoring the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead with 2:53 to play in the first. Sophomore
Harley Sabol ended the run at 1:05, scoring her first career goal, as Lindsay picked up her second assist of the contest. The Valiants added a goal six seconds later to take a 4-2 lead after the first quarter.
Manhattanville extended the lead to three early in the second quarter, before Lindsay recorded her third assist of the half, this time feeding sophomore
Hannah Chocallo, who notched her first career goal at 11:05. The Valiants scored twice in the final four and a half minutes of the quarter to take a 7-3 advantage into the half. Manhattanville began the second half on a 6-0 run, spanning the entire third quarter and into the fourth, before Lindsay found the back of the cage to make it a 13-4 game at 10:11. The Valiants tallied three more goals in the quarter, to come away with the 16-4 win.
Senior
Jessie Smalley started the contest in the cage, making 15 saves on 31 shots. Lindsay led the Monarchs attack, tallying four points on one goal and three assists, while Benner, Sabol, and Chocallo all added one goal. King's collected 11 of 25 draws, led by sophomore
Chloe Burke who corralled two draws and Lindsay who picked up three. The Monarchs forced 11 Valiant turnovers, as senior
Brynn Pike caused four.
Britney Sirota got the start in goal and finished with four saves, picking up the win. Maura Kelly and Marisa D'Angelo paced the Valiants, as both recorded five points, on five goals and four goals and one assist respectively. Manhattanville controlled 14 draws, while forcing the Monarchs into 13 turnovers.
King's opens MAC Freedom play on Wednesday as the Monarchs travel to Doylestown, PA to take on Delaware Valley at 4 p.m.
