WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 23, 2023) -- Despite tackling the inclement weather,
Jessie Smalley was solid in goal, making 18 saves, as the King's College women's lacrosse team fell, 17-7, to DeSales University in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) match up. With the setback, the Monarchs drop to 2-12 overall and 1-5 in the conference standings, while the Bulldogs improve to 5-10 with a 2-4 MAC Freedom mark.

After postponing the contest with just 12:14 left in the opening period due to inclement weather on Saturday, play resumed Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium with King's (2-12, 1-5 MAC Freedom) trailing, 2-1. DeSales (5-10, 2-4 MAC Freedom) would tally two more goals before the end of the period as the Monarchs trailed, 4-1, after the opening quarter with the lone goal coming from the stick of
Chloe Burke.

King's struck first in the second as
Emilee Schultz found the back of the net with 10:59 to play in the half, but the Bulldogs would score three unanswered goals in response.
Kyleigh Dunworth tallied a man-up goal with 44 seconds left thanks to a feed from
Grace Venis, but DeSales would have the final say in the half as the officials counted the Bulldogs goal as time expire to see the Monarchs facing an 8-3 deficit at the break.

The Monarchs remained within striking distance thanks to a three-goal third period. Burke put up her second goal of the game with 8:18 to go in the period before striking again with 23 seconds left.
Grace Venis would score with time running out in the period as the Monarchs closed within 12-6. Despite scoring the first goal of the fourth as Schultz posted her second score of the game on an assist from Burke with 12:20 remaining, but it would be all DeSales the rest of the way as the Monarchs fell, 17-7, in the MAC Freedom contest at McCarthy Stadium.

Burke paced the offense with four points on three goals and an assist behind a team-best five shots, while both Schultz and Venis put up two points in the loss. Additionally,
Ashley Dias collected three draw controls. Smalley posted the 18-save effort in the full game while also grabbing a team-high seven ground balls.

Marina Bradley led DeSales with eight points on six goals and two assists with a team-leading 15 shots and five draw controls. Hayley Petrosini collected a team-best six ground balls with five draw controls, while Kelsey Pogonyi caused two turnovers. Michaela Regan secured the win in the net as she made four saves.

As a team, the Monarchs collected 11 ground balls, posted 18 saves, and made 12 clears in the set back.

King's will host Arcadia University in MAC Freedom play on Wednesday night in McCarthy Stadium. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
