EDWARDSVILLE, PA (September 13, 2023) -- After trailing by one at the break,
Liz Porto scored twice to help King's College end the night in a draw against cross-town rival, Wilkes University.
King's (1-2-1) faced off against Wilkes University (0-2-2) Wednesday night and found themselves on the attack early as
Brooke Finlay and
Leah Sankey put shots on net that were saved and blocked by the Wilkes defense. The Colonels went up 1-0 in the 17
th minute as Jess Shea's shot found the low right corner of the goal. The Monarchs kept Wilkes at bay for the rest of the first half, out-shooting the Colonels 5-3.
King's jumped all over an early opportunity in the second half as Porto shot a ball high center that passed the Colonel goalkeeper, tying the game at one all. Ten minutes later Porto struck again placing the ball in the high left corner putting the Monarchs on top 2-1 in the 63
rd minute.
Less than two minutes later Wilkes retaliated scoring once again to tie the game at two in the 65
th minute. Both sides battled back and forth the rest of the second half, trading shots, corners, and yellow cards, with neither team able to put themselves ahead. In the 90
th minute King's successfully defended a corner by the Colonels putting the game to an end at a 2-2 tie.
Porto shined on the night as she placed three shots on net and scored both goals for the Monarchs in the second half of play. Sankey recorded the loan assist on the night on Porto's second goal.  Finlay recorded two shots on goal, and Sankey and
Angelina Vargas both notched one shot on goal for the Monarchs.
Aspen Wallin would start in net for the Monarchs and recorded two crucial saves to help keep the Monarchs in the game.
King's will return to the field Saturday, September 16, as the Monarchs travel to Newark, NJ to take on Rutgers-Newark at 6:00 pm.
