WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 19, 2023) -- Four Monarchs score as King's College women's soccer takes down Morrisville State College 4-0 on home turf.
King's (2-3-1) had a dominating performance against Morrisville State (2-3-1) outshooting the Mustangs 32-0 on the night.
Gabriella Porchetta got things started for the Monarchs, notching the first goal of the game in the 16
th minute on a
Leah Sankey through ball up the middle. King's nonstop pressure on net eventually lead to the second goal of the game off the head of
Hailey Shillabeer on a Monarchs corner kick play. The goal was assisted by Sankey. Just one minute later in the 35
th minute
Maryanna Garcia found the back of the net as she scored off the right goal post to put the Monarchs up 3-0 going into the half.
The Monarchs continued to pressure the Mustang's goal in the second half.
Jenna Waldbillig took advantage of a Mustang miss-communication and scored on an empty net, putting King's up by four. The remainder of the game saw several Monarchs pressure the Mustang net; however, the score would remain 4-0 till the final whistle.
Porchetta, Shillabeer, Waldbillig, and Garcia all scored goals for the Monarchs. Sankey, Waldbillig, and
Ashley Dukehart picked up assists. Several Monarchs placed two shots on net over the course of the game. The long list includes, Waldbillig, Sankey, Garcia,
Brooke Finlay,
Madison Peacock, and
Megan Thompson. Shillabeer, Porchetta,
Ashley Dias,
Dasha Atkins, and
Shannon Kessler also record shots on goal for the Monarchs. Additionally, senior goalkeeper
Aspen Wallin posted her second career shutout in the victory as she went the distance in goal for the Monarchs.
Goalkeeper Melanie Rott recorded 10 saves in goal for the Mustangs.
The Monarchs will hit the road for their next two games taking on Albright College on Saturday, September 23, and will play at Lycoming College Wednesday, September 27, before returning to McCarthy Stadium to host Arcadia University in MAC Freedom play, Saturday, September 30 at 7 P.M.
